Miss Japan Hiroko Mima

iroko Mima become Miss Universe Japan 2008 in Tokyo on Thursday, April 3, 2008. Mima is a 21-year-old student at a college in her native Tokushima prefecture in western Japan. She will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam in July to compete in this year's Miss Universe pageant.

Mima's chances at the Miss Universe crown may be somewhat diminished by the fact that last year's crown was won by Miss Japan Ryo Mori in Mexico City. On the other hand, recent Misses Japan have done remarkably well under the direction of Frenchwoman Ines Ligron. During the past nine years three have been among the top 5 finalists.

Mima is an athlete who competes in the high jump on her college's track team. At a height of just over 5' 8" she high-jumps 5 foot 5 inches.
