Yao Ming Seeks Cure in China

ouston Rockets' Yao Ming arrived on crutches for a press conference in Beijing on Friday, April 4, 2008. Yao had arrived in Beijing the day before to consult with practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine on ways to speed up the healing of a bone fracture in his foot. He said he would also visit with fellow players and coach Jonas Kazlauskas on the China national team's strategy for the Beijing Olympics in August.

Yao injured his foot in late February during the Rockets' 11th consecutive win, and was declared out for the rest of the season. A doctor estimated that it would take four months for his foot to heal following surgery. The Rockets went on to extend their win streak to 22 games without Yao before it was ended March 19 by the Celtics. Ming had been averaging 22 points and 10.8 rebounds per game at the time of his injury.
