The cantopop singer that most fans know simply as Janice, is actually Janice Vidal, the daughter of a Filipino father and a Chinese Korean mother. Being based in Hong Kong, she chose to take the Chinese name Wei Lan. She was discovered while doing backup vocals for Leon Lai in 2001. Lai offered her a contract with his newly formed AMusic label, but delayed her from releasing an album until she had learned more Cantones and generated some underground buzz by doing covers of his songs. Janice Wei Lan has releases four albums since that first one in 2004. Her twin sister Jill Vidal is an R&B singer also signed with AMusic.
