Chinese Man Arrested for Stabbing Death of 6

olice arrested a farmer accused of stabbing six people to death with a sickle and another farming implement in a central Chinese village, state media reported Sunday.

     The official Xinhua News Agency and local media said Zhang Jinfu killed six and injured one in a stabbing spree Saturday morning in the Hubei province village of Xuyang.

     Villagers said Zhang, 43, had once been hospitalized for mental illness, and he seemed unstable while being interrogated by police, Xinhua said.

     Those killed included two men in their 60s, a husband and wife in their 50s along with the mother of one of them, and a 7-year-old boy. The boy's mother was injured when she tried to stop Zhang, Xinhua said.

     When contacted by telephone, local police declined to answer questions about the incident and referred a reporter to the state media reports.
