Consider that by the age of 18 BoA (nee Boa Kwon) had become the first non-Japanese to have two albums sell over a million copies in Japan when she released Best of Soul in 2005. She's also the first non-Japanese to top the Oricon pop chart for six consecutive weeks.

In addition to having acquired good command of Japanese through intensive study, BoA has released songs in Mandarin and is said to have a conversational command of English. She was born Nov. 5, 1986 and was discovered at the age of 13 when she accompanied an older brother to a talent competition. She is generally considered one of Korea's top two or three female pop stars as well as one of Asia's most popular.
