WHAT YOU SAY
(Updated 11/9/00)

     1.Bridgeport,CT: Most Laos lived there

San Diego cause the diversity and the publicity it gets
noy

Toronto... where else can you find a professional job where the entire department speaks cantonese all day? Go for dim sum at lunch hour, then go to a large mall like the ones in HK? its like a very cold version of home away from home.
Worst.. anywhere south of DC, USA
jen

     Worst: Nashville, Tn
DOgg!!!...bow ya headz and take up a moment of silence for me. Can't u feel mah pain in an instance?
This city is WHITE as HAYLE! I feel like I'm an interruption to this area. If anyone wants they a$$es lynched, come over here!
I have nuttin mo to say. I'm outta here in a heartbeat after school finishes...fo sho!!!! Best: I'm gonna check out whatz so crackin about da NYC, But ain't no place like home...BEst of Everythang be in KAlifo-nia.
From Oakland to SacTown...da Bay Area and back down...Cali is where they put they mack down...nuttin but love.
Live n Die in da city of Angelz.
-"I wish they all could be California Girlz!" --Kor./ Dogg

The suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota are kinda varying. If you are rich family and WANT AWESOME HIGH SCHOOLS then live in Edina (the rich suburb) but watch out because there are stupid families who know nothing about other cultures. If you want good city, good community, good voice, GREAT at cultural diversity live in Burnsville or Bloomington but drawback is sucky schools. Don't live in Prior Lake (ultra racist) or north suburbs of Minneapolis. As for Minneapolis and St Paul itself is ghetto and ghetto schools but its very diverse crowd especially you want urban experience but teh suburbs are the way to go. Eat at Buk Hoi (Mandarin Kitchen) in Bloomington, Sun Herng Kong (New Hong Kong) in Edina, Herng Kong Fun Mein something something (Hong Kong Noodle) or Buk King Yuern (Peking Garden) both in St Paul in U of M. --yim fu-wah

Las Vegas. That is a definite. The only Asian population are the Chinese tourists and the Filipinos that want nothing to do with the Japanese or anyone else.

Just a side note to Asian Americans born in the U.S. ALL CITIES IN THE U.S. should be the best cities for asians to live in. The reality is they aren't. I challenge you to go back to your homeland, if just for vacation or for a friendly visit(go meet your relatives, grandparents!)You'll find yourself with a totally different but better perspective on life. No insecurities, no sneers, stares, or racist comments in motherland...if you don't know the language, well...LEARN IT! It's your heritage! You'll find yourself renewed and vigored, trust me. --Korean Cowboy
Toronto or Vancouver. The closest to real Hong Kong Chinese food as you can get anywhere in the western hemisphere! --Theatregrrl
The BEST city is Glendora, CA. Although it is Almost all White, it has a steadily growing Asian population. It has great schools, Affordable houses and mansions. It is close to Walnut and other cities with high Asian population, and is a very safe and beautiful city.
The BEST city if you want a MAJORITY Asian city, is San Marino, CA
The schools are all majority Asian, the houses and mansions here are huge, and it is a very beautiful city.
The WORST city for Asians to move to is Arcadia, CA. Although the schools are good, I have heard other Asians complain that they are over- populated. The White people pretty much run the city council and school board, and have strict rules on what Asians (or anybody for that matter) can do in regards to housing and business signs. There is a lot of tension between Whites and Asians so I recommend going to a city that is mostly Asian like San Marino instead.
best cities--1)Seattle because asians are different there than in other cities. asians in Seattle aren't your stereotypical asians you find elsewhere.
2)honolulu because most of the people there are asian.
3)san fran because of the large asian population and communities.
4)los angeles because of the diverse asian population. there are all kinds of asians in los angeles.
5)new york(esp. queens)because of the large asian population mixed with a multi-ethnic city where all races interact to make a very interesting flavor.
worst cities--1)el paso because there are too many rednecks and racist mexicans.
2)montgomery because many people in the town act like they have never seen an asian before.
3)tallahasse because too many people in the town hate foreigners.
4)new orleans because for such a large city it hardly has any asians.
5)baltimore because a lot of whites and blacks are jealous of the asian success in their communities. ID: traveling man
Best: San Diego -- the most diverse city in the United States, and it's the West Coast where Asians predominate.
Worst: Chicago, or other Midwestern Cities -- to those who picked Chicago as the best...are you kidding? I've lived in Chicago for 9 years...the women here (especially the white women) treat Asian guys like aliens from outer space, or just plain dog crap. --Dave, Chicago, Asian male
Best city is Vancouver.BC of course.- We practically own that city. Canada rules! Worse city is New York. Although I am not attracted to asian females or care to date asian females. 90% of asian females in NY date white F*cks and that still bugs me for some unknown reason. LOL. --AsianMachine
There's no place like the LA area. There are so many Asians here that you don't have to worry about dealing with racists unless you want to. And most of the other people are pretty receptive to Asians. White women here are about as open to AM as anywhere. Hispanics are something else though... They maybe resent us.
1. San Francisco BEST
2. any town USA, Below 50,000 People, uneducated, predominately a particular racial group, white, asian, black.. doesn't matter.
oakland is NOT over 70% black. the actual percentage of blacks is 40%. furthermore saying that the presence of blacks increases the crime rate perpetuates racism against people of color just as much as saying that the presence of asians ruins the neighborhood. people of color ought to be working together to combat racism. this is in fact what you find in oakland. oakland is a wonderful place to live and has tons of great chinese, vietnamese, japanese, and korean restaurants. there are also tons of great soul food restaurants. in oakland the mingling of blacks and asians has produced really great cultural and political projects. a great example is yoshi's. yoshi's, considered to be the best jazz club in the bay, is also a japanese restaurant. i have found that those who dislike oakland are largely stuffy conservative and racist. --sag20@cornell.edu
Best
C'mon, let's hear it for San Jose. Sure, it's the epicenter for the nerd revolution, and for a real nightlife, you'd have to drive an hour north to San Fran--but really, the Asian population here is large and diverse. It's reasonably clean, mostly trouble-free, and the non-Asian residents are for the most part welcoming. Of course, the other Asians here can be a bit snippy and gossipy, but hey, tell me a place where we/you AREN'T. Don't forget that food. Man, I love a town where I can get bool gool ki for lunch and great Thai for dinner. (Not to mention grabbing a late-night burrito with extra jalapenos.)
Best, Runner-Up
Believe it or not, I'm going to say London, England. If I could live anywhere in the world (outside California), London would be it. Sure, your parents regale you with stories about the English/Chinese Opium Wars, and yes, there was that whole dirty business with England refusing to grant citizenship to Hong Kong residents before the changeover, but I can't get enough of this great city--history, culture, a renewed sense of vibrancy and community. Love it.
Peace
It never fails to surprise me whenever I read the messages on a Web site devoted to Asians. Asians vs. Whites. Asians vs. Asians. Left Coast vs. Right. Why all the hype, hoopla, and propaganda? Aren't our histories filled with enough animosity, racism and misunderstanding? I was born in Singapore and raised in California, so where does that leave me except constantly searching for an identity? We all put up with enough BS; leave the anger aside and recognize yourselves for what you really are--an educated, well-mannered, upwardly-mobile group of people who will help
Denver, CO. Asians has always been smart when dealing with technologies. With companies like Qwest, IBM, Cisco, and more are moving here from silicon valley, there's plenty of opportunity for Asains. With a lot less crime and gangs than Los Angeles, I think it's a much better environment.
I'm an asian woman married to a White man,and as far as I know prejudice exist everywhere. However,I can easily recognize the people who are prejudice : folks that are ignorant, uneducated, and stupid. People that are good always have God in their heart and are nice to immigrants.
Best city is: Chicago
worst city is: all small towns in the midwest and texas .Population sizes: 10,000 and under.
To the cretin (self professed Asian expert)who claims that Asians are somehow destroying the planet. Lay off the drugs, and just take a trip to Silicon Valley. Asian Americans contribute far more to American society than they take away from it. Moreover, i'm a white person(married to a Asian woman),and if Europe was so great how come so many of us emigrated from it. There is only one group of Americans that can claim to be more of a legitimate citizen than another:The Native Americans.
Best City:Chicago and Madison WI.
Worst Cities:Small town redneck cities.
Best: Haven't found one yet :(
Worst: -Durham, NC: People are hicks, closed-minded and rude. There are very few AA, the few asians I saw were mostly FOBs. Plus, there is a fire ant problem and it is deathly humid there.
-Springfield, IL: This place is ALL white, plus is the most boring place on the face of the earth. The only asians you see around here are the FOBs who run the few chinese restaurants (bad chinese food here)around here. Pitiful...
Best City = Chicago
Why? Where else would Asians want to mingle with so many so-called "other" minorities?
Worst= Any city not yet ravaged by politically-correct madness
This site is RACIST in every shape or form - especially against white people - the very people who fought to keep America propserous and clean.
If Asia is so great, how come SO MANY Asian people emmigrate? If yu don't like the food in our house, don't tell US to change the menu; go home and continue wrecking YOUR country - or that of your neighbours.
The attitude of most Asians just makes me sick. Wake up - you're destroying what's left of the planet with your views on religion and birth control and the environment.
Do you undestand?
Man, I'm going to enjoy this... I grew up in Connecticut and I f*cking hate it. I was in the Army for 2 years stationed in Texas and I had more fun in those 2 years there than in bumf*ck Connecticut. So sad to say it about the place where you grew up but damn. Cost of living is high, insurance rates are freaking high as hell. I gotta get back to Texas, my future adopted home state. --Frustrated American Asian dude
Best?? The only two american cities I know quite well is san francisco and stockton in california. SF is so great! It's so easy to meet asian friends but and stockton sucks. It's in the valley with a lot of hicky ppl and few asians. I also went to oakland several times and it sucks!!! Because where there're more african americans, there're more crimes (fact, not prejudice). The city of Oakland has a population of over 70% of blacks...think about that!
Any city in Southern Califonia. The worst? anywhere in CANADA! I'm a Canadian born Chinese or CBC in T0 with family in So Cal. Canadian comapnies hire asians only when they either look white or can serve their own. For the Hawaii dude who tells us not to hate whites. Who the hell are you! your F***ed in the head! All comfortable around your own in Hawaii? who's really doing the seperating dumb ass!
First of all, according to "Dragon, the Bruce Lee Story" and just about every other source, Bruce Lee was born in San Fran, not Hong Kong. Watch the movie again.
Best cities: Manhattan
Queens
LA County
San Fran
Seattle: best Asians in America because they actually get off their asses and do things other than makin money.
Not bad:
Houston
Austin
Chicago: 10 years behind new york in everything
sacramento: almost first tier
WORST = ATLANTA
---------------
A little help here! There are alot of asians but hardly any AA's that I know of besides my brothers. --gregboy98@hotmail.com
Best: Any where in California, and also Houston. Those cities just kick ass.
Worst: Any backwards thinking city in the US --23/M/Chinese
The best cities for us are: Chicago, New York, and almost anywhere in California. The best places are those that are run by tolerant democrats. This would also include Hawai'i.The worst places are those run by conservatives.
Toronto, Great City, Lots of Asian Places, Great Food, Enhancement of Culture and Fun
Glendora, CA is a great WHITE community. Very good schools, and has a wide range of housing from small to large. It's Affordable. By the way White people are just as good as you Asians.
best honolulu past responses are right.
worst is also honolulu- poor economy, poor schools, the university of hawaii could be special but because the worst thing hawaii th dam democrats. any stereotype you have of corrupt politicians does not compare to politicians in hawaii (mainly democrats) --kkh
I was wondering who ever got the idea that Bruce Lee was born in Sanfrancisco
According the move " Dragon the Bruce Lee Story, Bruce Lee was actually born in Hong Kong but emigrated to US in his early teens. I hope this will help those who missed watching the movie.
Kam Toronto, Canada --kamkwong@hotmail.com
Best city--Houston, TX
Worst city--any city east of TX and south of the mason-dixie line
Yes! SF/Bay Area all the way! It is so easy to meet so many friendly worldly people and still have sex with them! One complaint: I think every white yuppie temp there is from Michigan or some other dull state. They're wierd, man. They need a hug or something.
Irvine -- I grew up there, and I didn't know what racial prejudice was until I came out to the East for college. Every time I go home I feel at ease as an Asian American.
LA: accepted and so many of us there! Also, it's a fun city.
san francisco... sf is already filled with asians and the ppl there are already rather accepting of diversity. worst=any "country hick" places... ugh i'm stereotyping again
chicago...we are the up and coming pocket of asian americans here...
I think Dallas is just fine because I live in Dallas. The number of Asians are growing over the years, and there are tons of job opportunities around.
Hawai'i is da best. All of the mainland kinda sucks cause all the mainland asian are kinda f-cked in the head trying to be asian and they got the wrong idea about the asian ppls and culture. That's why white look down on ya'll, cause most asians on the mainland hate whites and think they are oppresed. think they are/gotta be better than whites or non-asians. get over it. we are all human. we are all the same. they are not making race divisions, you are. look at the demographics. asian just self-segergate and move to where there are more asians. WFT? like yer seperating yerself from ppls. don't help when you hate white folk, they'll just hate you back.
  • "Best city Seattle (so far), the worst city for Asian American: Lubbock TX. Yes, you spell Korea with a "K"."
[You do. We choose not to. Check out our Corea Spelling Policy. --Ed.]
  • "The best city to escape racial predujuce is Honolulu because there are tons of Asians there already"
  • "los angeles, ca."
  • "ATLANTA, GA- it takes the best out of the south (the hospitality and friendliest, most genuinely caring people in the country) and combines with a hugely growing population of asians. there is an 'asiantown' which has numerous asian restaraunts, markets, and places to shoot pool, sing karaoke, etc. there is physical beauty and also a very metropolitan side with business opportunities and a glamorous nightlife!"
  • "San Francisco -- such a large Asian community..."
  • "best city is chicago, asian have a good influence in business and creativity also the price is pretty reasonable for big city compare to New York or Frisco or L .A the worst city is appleton Wisconsin, they say it's the best city and safest for raised the kids, well yes if you're white not for minority." --ningwhit@cs.com
  • "Irvine, California -- Highly rated school district. Good, planned community. Excellent University with enrollment predominately Asian. Excellent weather, close to everything. More and more Asians looking to Irvine as a city of choice to live, work and play." --BL
  • "san francisco -- San Francisco is very culturally diverse. It is a place where opportunity exists for asian americans. It ranks right up with Seattle, Vancouver, and Minneapolis. Honolulu has great diversity and weather but the economy is faltering and the cost of living is high. The opportunity and the buck goes farther in the midwest."
  • " chicago -- asian americans are successful in chicago. Worst City: Milwaukee:the people don't like asians."
  • "Worst City: Washington DC - you gotta look pretty long and hard to find an Asian chick with an Asian dude"
  • "Worst City: Ha. San Francisco, hands down. In 1995, the Asian population was (now it's higher) 40% and until 1995 not a single AA had been elected to government office. In 1995 they finally broke through. Still, in a population that is 40% Asian, you would never know it to look at who actually runs that town. On the surface, SF is hunky-dory, peachy-keen, very tolerant and multi-cultural, but just below the surface is the centuries-old racism--thicker than concrete--that will not move or bend or change for anything. And the "tolerant", politically correct are the very worst offenders. Suffocating racism. I'll take Texass over that. The denser the population, the more dangerous a place it is to be AA. Any Japanese-American can tell you that."
  • "Worst City: Cleveland, OH -- Its cold and has too much snow here in winters. Also, lack of openness to different culture and people, which you can find easily in other major metropolitan areas."
  • "ANYWHERE -- because Asians RULE!!! and we thrive everywhere we GO!!!"
  • "Flushing, Queens -- Already many asian people. Good Food. Near Chinatown"
  • "New York -- New York is a diverse city that allows us to live within our own enclaves but still be able to interact with people of other races. I would not want to live in a city that is either heavily populated by Asians or heavily populated by whites. There has to be a good mixure of many different people. That's how we learn from each other and learn how to get along. NYC provides that type of environment."
  • "birmingham, alabama -- is very toleran of asians and asian americans. worst city: detroit, michigan is a very hostile city towards asians."
  • "seattle ! -- lots of professional asians of all countries. it is also close to vancouver, bc! Worst City: anywhere in texas!"

    San Francisco
  • "culturally diverse. Respect for asian americans."
  • "I personally love East coast of United States (Boston, New york,) but Northern California such as San Francisco is beutiful city as a Korean-American spelled with K!!!! not with letter C!!!!. would prefered to live in San Francisco too."
[Please check out our Corea Spelling Policy. You may change your mind.]
  • "Asians are able to blend in yet be accepted for our differences. A lot of opportunities here for Asians without being biased against. Lots of Asian stuff available here too. We have a Chinatown, Japan/Korea-town, and so much ethnic diversity. anyway, I live here! "
  • "There is a highly concentrated and politically power support network in S.F. for Asian American issues and concerns that is not found in any other city I have lived or visited."
  • "An Asian American has been appointed Chief of Police in San Francisco, and Asian Americans serve on the city Board of Supervisors (City Council). Most of the other cities have little or no Asian representation in city government. Exceptions: L.A., and Seattle. But San Francisco beats them both out as the best place for Asians. San Francisco beats out Honolulu only very narrowly because I understand there is some poverty among Asians in Honolulu. Hawaii is also not enjoying the economic good times on the mainland. The economic problems in Hawaii adversely impacts Asians in that state."
  • "It's the best city in N. America, period. The best food, stunning physical beauty, great nightlife. Asian or not, you simply cannot rival SF in terms of it being a great place to live and work."
  • "It's not. The only reason why it's the best is because so many freakin asians live there who else can run the town!"
  • "It's the favorite city of not only Asians but people from the four corners of the World who come to the U.S & you'll understand why after just one visit."
  • "the city is a whole world in one place. it has a big japantown, chinatown and filipino town. a really diversed city. weather doesn't really change...which is good for asian immigrants..surrounded with cities and counties full of asians as well."
  • "San Francisco has the largest chinatown in North America. Also,it's the birthplace where Bruce Lee was born. San Francisco is the place for Asian to be."
  • "It's too obvious--visit and you'll see."
  • "High Asian population."
  • "There're more asians in this city."

    Honolulu
  • "Beautiful weather, beautiful people, lots of Asians, lots of hapa people, friends and family of all races, no discrimination, no chips on our shoulders like mainland Asians, no complexes and insecurities about being Asian, genuine and sincere people, Asians hold important positions throughout the city, our governor is Filipino, laid back and friendly people, great food variety, great night life, great day life, and we're the 1st to get all the cool trends and goods from Japan."
  • "Honolulu is a great mix of people...almost all with some asian roots."
  • "asians are the majority. Ethnic diversity has always been apart of Hawaii living."
  • "Job opportunities and cultural mix."
  • "The Aloha Spirit, where all races are able to live together, with very little racism since there is no single ethnic majority. All races, Asian and non-Asian are represented and respected."
  • "asians here are different from asians on the mainland. we don't have a huge chip on our shoulder, and we embrace other ethnicities with open arms, and incorporate them within our culture."
  • "It's quiet and cultural difference."
  • "because I lived there"
  • "More percentage of asians"
  • "Because it is."

    Los Angeles
  • "It has more ethnic and class diversity than other cities. Monterey Park has its varieties, but it's rare to find Asians/Asian-Americans of low socioeconomic status there. Los Angeles also has other ethnic groups, so Asians more or less aren't segregated from the rest of the population."
  • "Coz that's where most immigrants and asians are concentrated."
  • "LA has the most good-looking Asians around."
  • "Simply the numbers...."
  • "Unlike S.F. where the crowd converges on downtown Market street, L.A. provides "pockets" of vibrant activity throughout the region."
  • "best food! also, well developed suburban asian communities, shopping centers, businesses, affluence abound."
