WHAT YOU SAY
(Updated

None of you talk about what life is like for asians in those cities. You only talk about tourist things. So tell me how do asians live? I know for a fact that the asian communities in Houston and in San Diego both have a gang problem. An asian gang problem. For that matter so does San Jose. No need to mention NY, it's a given. So tell me how do asians live?
There is a place in San Diego called Shelltown. It was given that name many years ago because it was once the Chinatown in San Diego, and the Chinese were fishermen. Now it's nicknamed has a different meaning, and the ethnic group there is different. It's Shelltown because of the bullet shells gangs leave behind.
My Brother tells me that Houston has notorious Cambodian and Viet gangs. A problem kept within the asian communities.
Guess what so does San Diego. We have place some people refer to as little Saigon, not just because of the large Viet community but also because of the gang violence there. Again kept within the asian communities.
And what about San Jose? OKB or is OKG. If you know you know, if not then you're sheltered.
Needless to say I'm sure the triad wannabes in NY are same as the ones in LA and SF.
So paint your pretty pictures. Cuz we aint all livin large. Where do we live, and how?
All those asian businesses on El Cajon Blvd in San Diego are located in little Saigon. Try rolling through there at night.
One more thing, don't compare the cops in these different cities. Come on NYPD, the only ones that come close to them is an unmentioned city and that's Chicago. Don't even compare Texas cops to California cops. Your Texas cope make the LAPD look like crossing guards. Get real.
So keep your head in the clouds. Obviously some of you aren't living in asian communities in San Diego, like Chula Vista, City Heights, Linda Vista, Mira Mesa, and so on. Give me a break. Worldlyman if you are from Houston then you know how the asians live there.
Walk a mile in some real asian shoes partner. This aint even my computer. I don't blame no one for my perdicament, just know what's real and what's not. You guys aint real.
By the way most places in this country aren't safe to raise kids, so don't be so sheltered and ignorant. What are you going to do blame it on the schools?
One more thing worldly, you must not hang with asian people if you can't find the asian markets. We have three within two miles of each other in near the Convoy street 007 spoke of. One you can't miss off of Clairemont Mesa Blvd east of 805. The other two you won't find unless you know someone. And to that section of Convoy street with the asian businesses and restaurants is only four of five blocks long, maybe less if you minus the car dealerships that are the dominant businesses in that section. It's the section of Convoy between Balboa Ave and Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
Yeah, keep it real. Aint no really safe places in this country to be asian, unless you are affluent. Maybe Hawaii, but never been there. I hear the economy sucks over there anyway.
If you're looking for a place to be a tourist, then go to disneyland.
Keep it real Cuz

I took a spin to Convoy Street in San Diego.
It is very much San Diego's Little Korea, Little Chinatown and Little Saigon rolled into one........emphasis on the Korean........and it's not that big.
If that's the meat of San Diego's non-Filipino Asian commercial district...........it is not even a fraction of Houston's plethora of scattered Asian shopping zones like three Little Saigons, two Chinatowns, Little Korea and the it's-getting-more-huge Veterans Memorial Pkwy: chock-full, beaucoup Asian storefronts.
The Asian strip centers of San Diego's Convoy look very nice though. There is a Lollicup Tea Zone and a few other tapioca tea places.......so that definitely helps. I like the barley wheat germ milk teas the best.
So, when I have time, it's off to see what Mira Mesa boulevard has got on its storefronts.

"Santa Monica vs Galveston"
If you like plastic, then it's Santa Monica. If you like eccentric confluence with a unique personality, then Galveston is like no other superficially pretty beachtown. No Moody Gardens in Santa Monica, for sure. There's no Rosie's Bar either.
Houston weather allows for soul-clearing Gulf thunderstorms. So refreshing. Perhaps many Californians don't understand the exciting internal electricity that we Gulf Coasters feel during the thunder and lighting. Living here in San Diego, for now, I wish that SoCal could have them periodically.
The blasts of winter blow away Houston smog. And those gray Euro-winter days mixed in with those SoCal type of cool blue days outside of Fall..........I love it. Variety in weather interests me. Too much blue pleasant weather, day after day, kind of imparts a monotonous zombie feeling in you, you know? Besides, you didn't know that humidity keeps the moisture in the skin, keeping the youthful looks longer?
In July, there are a great many times that I prefer Houston's pleasant warm summer nights rather than that Pacific chill. H-town weather is very good in my book.
The synergy and drastically unique INDIVIDUAL character of some of Houston's nightlife areas: downtown, Montrose, the Richmond Strip, Rice Village (along Morningside), actually afford a TRUE variety unlike most of SoCal's more or less uniform theme entertainment districts.
There is a difference between The Montrose and downtown H-town, 4 miles apart, in vibe, character and flow as well as streetscape and scale. The vibe, character, etc. in Old Town Pasadena are not much different than the San Diego GasLamp, 100 miles away or so.
Coronado's Beachy Please character is not much different than Santa Monica's, 100 miles away. The beach enterainment towns in SoCal are just variations of the Rodeo Drive theme. Newport is the most unique, though. At least it offers a bit of Clear Lake or some New England area without.
But Galveston's Strand and SeaWall entertainment districts..........are totally different in vibe and look than Kemah Waterfront, merely 20 miles away.
Houston has true eclectic variety and personality, that's not to be argued.
And let's not get into what The Woodlands is becoming. That new entertainment district, with its Venice-like Canals and waterfront shops and stuff, under the canopy of those magnificent forests.........is what helps give Houston different scenic angles. The Gulf Coast to the south and then the mighty rich forest to the north!
And, Asians from Cali do go to Houston to party and eat also, Westside. All those trips taking Cali Asians out to Kim Son or Spy and other such places, it's not a one way street.

be,
NY is a great city is because it's overpowering and at times overbearing. It's like when one tries to rein a wild stallion! Of course this is difficult, but once you have its command, you are set for life.
I have to say there are cons to living in NY. The abrupt rudeness and the inconsiderate behavior of people is something many people from the outside dislike very much. But one eventually learns to disregard it and focus on their priorities...this what NY is all about. In other words, you put on a layer of thick skin.
Let me tell you something about NYers, usually the ones who are loud and brash are the stupid ones. Many successful and ambitious NYers are the silent and calculating type. This is true of all ethnic groups found in the city.
The city has a cutthroat and competitive atmosphere which sometimes gives in to the bad side of people and that includes Asians.
When I say people actually talk to one another, there is actually a genuine dialogue between them (this could be bad or good). In other cities, people are just downright xenophobic and provincial, and most races don't want to talk with each other, unless it's a fight or a conflict.

be,
It a dog-eat-dog town. Either you keep up with the program or get left behind. You got to stand your ground in this town.

JJP:
I was only making observations and not making any implications man. You need to lighten up. Do you think that I intended those breakdowns to be that way? My only point was that there were on the average more IRs in SD than H-Town. I wasn't givine approval or disapproval to any ethnic mix, man. Chill out.
