WHAT YOU SAY
(Updated

This is in reply to "Keep It Real Cuz".
Reality is whatever we make it. This is for each of us, individually. Some of us are swept into 9-5 jobs; marriage; art; music; athletics; family life; relationships, etc.
Some of us are swept into fear; self pity; sadness; crime; alienation; victimization; obesity; abberated ethics; obsession; inability.
But take heart. Each one of us can change slowly from within if we want to. If you express your desire to improve and expand and go to the right places you will find amazing support and friendship. Everyone wants to support someone who wants to grow.
Good luck to all of you.

Worldlyman,
You must be on drugs cuz no Houstonian has ever said the weather there is nice. Everyone I know bitches about how they have to wash their face after lunch cuz of the humidity. My friends from Houston couldn't get over how nice it was when they came to visit. They just couldn't sit still cuz they wanted to take advantage of the weather out here. Any city that has the highest air-conditioning usage in the US can't be very nice.
I'm afraid it is a one way street. If you think Spy is a happening place, then you are on drugs. Any club that is 18 and over and filled with Vietnamese gangsters pretty much sux in most sane people's books. Been there and to Tonic and they both suck. The girls there don't compare to the ones you see at Le Prive or Velfarre in Koreatown. Houston is cool to visit if you're Vietnamese cuz it has a huge V population. Very few west coast Chinese want to visit Houston and absolutely no Koreans or Japanese in the west coast would ever consider going to that hellhole. My Chinese friend was so glad to move out to LA from Houston. Only reason I even went there is because of work. My friends in Houston always want to come out here, but they never invite me cuz they know it ain't happening. And what's so special about Kim Son? Why would anyone fly from LA to go to Houston to eat at Kim Son when they have it here? And at least out here, the beach is nearby and clean. Galveston has to be the most disgustingly dirty beach I have ever seen in the entire world. Santa Monica is much more interesting than Galveston will ever be. What is up with all those dead jellyfish washed ashore. Just face it, almost anyone would rather live in the west coast than Houston. At least the ones not on drugs.

Keep it real Cuz,
I think you have to understand the world is much larger than Asian gangs, Tongs, and "4444" in text messaging systems.
If you have an opportunity, live somewhere peaceful for 3-4 years. Come back and things will look different.

Big Mighty Apple,
"most races don't want to talk with each other, unless it's a fight or a conflict."
Or make money. Let's not forget the money

"None of you talk about what life is like for asians in those cities. You only talk about tourist things."
Yeah, that's a good point.
"I know for a fact that the asian communities in Houston and in San Diego both have a gang problem. An asian gang problem. For that matter so does San Jose."
The gang "problem" is always blown out of proportion. SJ consistently wins the award of "Safest Big City in America." What kind of gang problem do they really have?
"And what about San Jose? OKB or is OKG. If you know you know, if not then you're sheltered."
Uhh... I've never heard of that gang. VN is one of the larger Viet gangs. Even they aren't that big. The gang problem has been down drastically in recent years because all of them have converted into racing crews.
"By the way most places in this country aren't safe to raise kids, so don't be so sheltered and ignorant. What are you going to do blame it on the schools?"
I don't get the argument about "safe places" to raise kids and all. I didn't grow up in a very safe place, but I think I still turned out alright. Just because you don't live in a low crime area, it doesn't mean you won't amount to anything. In fact, you will be more hardened. If I had a choice, I wouldn't hesitate to raise my children (if I ever have any) in a similar environment.
Lastly, I agree what people say about the beaches in So Cal. They all look the same. The beaches in Nor Cal tend to be a lot colder, and can get downright chilly, but they have a lot more character. No two look the same. I'd take the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk over any LA or San Diego beach anyday, including Venice or Del Mar.

"My Brother tells me that Houston has...Cambodian and Viet gangs."
I read the term "gangs" in reference to the Asian community in America to mean ASIAN POLITICAL ACTIVISTS. Conversely, the Caucasian police force in the Deep South and elsewhere in America, for example, can be labelled as "gangs" in those regions of the U.S.

Keep It real Cuz:
Vietnamese Gangs do exist in Houston--primarily in Alief. However, the Cambodian population is too small for there to be a gang unless you call three dudes hanging outside of a convenenience store a gang.
