"I've never been to Houston, but all I know is that the Houston Texans are going to play this coming fall, and their new stadium will open. Next year, the Houston Rockets will get a new stadium."
Why do those towns that lost their teams in the first place continually get new ones? The same thing is going on in LA. There is no new team yet, but there are always proposals either for expansion or relocation. The bottom line is any city who couldn't sustain a franchise the first time around (or in LA's case, two franchises), shouldn't be given a second chance.
The only city who truly deserved, and got, another team is Cleveland. Art Modell just plain screwed the town.
And what kind of name is Texans?! That's like calling a team the San Francisco Californians, St. Louis Missourians, or the Seattle Washingtonians.

Re: andrew jam
Just read your message, and you made some good points. But where did you get your facts from?!?!
300,000 Asians in Houston....? That didn't seem right to me.
The REAL facts:
174,000 Asians in ALL of Harris County (the county Houston is in) You basically doubled the actual number. 103,000 total asians in Houston city. (You don't want to know LA's numbers)

****You must be kidding me. Houston will NEVER be on the same level as LA. I know a few of you are pro-Houston....but there's a fine line between fact and fantasy.

"Asian gangs have dropped considerbly since the emergence of the raving phenomenon that hit the Asian Scene in Southern California from (98-01.)"
Nah, I don't think it is RAVING that caused it. It's RACING!!! Right after all the Dub Ceez and ABZ stuff went down in the mid 90's (is Marvin Mercado still on the loose?) in SGV is when racing started to pick up.

Andrewjam,
When I said that JAs and KAs from the west coast don't ever want to visit Houston, I didn't mean Japanese nationals who are students visiting Houston. It's appropriate you said a Japanese girl said "Houston big, just like Osaka" because it's obvious she's an international student.
The point that I made which you obviously missed is that LA is the Asian-American capital of the US. Korean-Americans in Houston (which is very small) come to LA to vacation and party, but definitely not vice-versa. There isn't much of a Japanese-American population in Houston to begin with so JAs from the west coast have absolutely no interest in visiting Houston. Asians from NY come to LA often and vice versa, but Houston doesn't factor into the equation. Houston has a large AA population, but it does not have a diverse AA population like LA which by the way has the largest Chinese, Korean and Japanese population in the US. It also has a very large Thai, Vietnamese and Cambodian population. If you're Vietnames, Houston is OK. But no Koreans or Japanese would want to live there. Most Chinese would much rather live in LA than Houston. It's obvious your pro-Houston sentiments really don't wash. Keep you 18 and over Vietnamese gang-infested club Spy becuz we sure as hell don't want anything crappy like that out here.

Even though there are asian gangs in San Diego, I wouldn't really consider it a problem, at leat not as big as a problem as 5-7 years ago.
Asian gangs have dropped considerbly since the emergence of the raving phenomenon that hit the Asian Scene in Southern California from (98-01.) Even though electronica music is
popular, the "fad" has since gone away. The popularity of raves in the last few years heavily slowed down another "fad"....Asian gangs. Asian gangs in San Diego started to emerged in the late 80's to early 90's. For the next decade, this plagued San Diego's Asian communities.
This description can easily resemble any city with a large asian population. The popularity of raves got Asians that had 4.0 gpa's to "drop E," but it also took 1-2 generation (in gang years) of potential gangstas off the streets. A good trade....?!?!
Re: keep it real cuz
Shelltown?!?! Ask any Asians in san diego about it, and most won't even know where it is. The Chinese history there is non-existant today, and even though i agree with you that its a high-crime area, 100% of crimes in that area have nothing to do with asians, much less asian gangs.
City Heights....This might be one of the most highest rated crime area in the city, and probably the highest concentration of asian gangs. But c'mon, you know most of the crimes are committed by other ethnics (blacks, hispanic, etc)
"All those asian businesses on El Cajon Blvd in San Diego are located in little Saigon. Try rolling through there at night...."
-Unless you're walking down the street flashing jewelry and cash at 10pm friday night, and walking in the inside streets, (not El Cahon or University), then you got nothing to worry about. And if you end up getting mugged, chances are an AA didn't do it. There's a new Mid-City police station in the area, and police presence is constant. I'm more worry about cops in East San Diego than gangs....
I know the large Filipinos community have gangs, but most gangs are getting older and know better, and you rarely see or hear about new gangs comming up. LIke other asian gangs in SD, Filipino gangs are on the decline.
You made the Asian gang scene in 858/619 bigger then it really is. So unless you're looking for trouble, there's nothing to worry about, in terms of confrontation with Asian gangs. Jus keept it real...
* THe asian community on CONVOY does not stop at balboa. Theres just as many Asian businesses south of balboa then from clairemont to balboa, and withouth the car dealerships.
Re: Worldlyman
So you finally "took a spin to Convoy street in San Diego."
Too bad you did you're observations after you bashed the city's Asian community. But let me tell you right now....driving around will not get the job done. Go look for some people that can take you around and really tell you how it is. The Asian clubbin scene is big, so go check some of it out.
Question: Who have you been hanging out with in San Diego?!?!
