1. They almost never do any pick up from the dance floor for two simple reasons. One, dialogue is very very limited because you can barely hear yourself think. Second, the dance floor is not very well lit at all. Hence the guy will be rejected if the babe can't make out your face; no need for the babe to charter into the unknown, right? Besides, dancing with a total stranger is very awkward for both parties. However, if you must make a move on the dance floor, give yourself some face time to the babe by standing by the vicinity of her. See if there is eye contact, smile,...etc.
2. Try to make your move at the bar instead. Bar area are well lit and more conducive to conversation. He and she can actually check each other out even if they are buzz out of their head. He can actually offer her something at the bar as a faithful gesture such as a drink, cigarette, breathe mint and perhaps leading to a conversation.
3. Babes standing by the wall of the dance floor is also a good place to do pick up. Again, stand in the vicinity/next to her to give yourself some face time so she can check you out. Afterward, just say hi and try to strike up a conversation. Here you can just concentrate on dialogue (here, good luck with the acoustic again) and not worry about dancing.
