Kris: Advice for Adoptive Parents of Asian Kids
n my town there are many (non asian)families with adopted korean, chinese kids. I think the one most important thing is to immerse him/her as much as you can in his/her ancestral culture. Like in my area since there are now so many adopted kids, they have special programs- where the kids come with the parents and they learn cultural dancing, customs, and language. I think this is helpful to the kids because if they eventually choose to see themselves as Korean(american), Chinese(american), etc.. they won't be totally clueless about their culture, they'll have something to build on, and if they interact with other asians/asian americans, they won't feel so out of place.
