hen faced with a cultural or racial taunt I would try to turn the negative into a positive. Usually I would say "your actually dumb enough to think thats an insult."

YOUR ADVICE
My advice. Be upfront: if a person hurls a racial slur at you, approach the person, look the person directly in the eyes, and, "Listen shithead. I'm only going to say this once. I'm letting that one slide. If, however, you pull something like that again, I'm not responsible for my behavior." The key is not to let the other person know what you intend to do, but to leave it vague, because the threat of something unknown is psychologically more intimidating than the threat of something known. Now, if the person does call your bluff, I recommend that you approach the guy and punch him in the face. Don't hold back. And then say, "I warned you," after you've shocked (and knocked) the living shit out of the white clown. Now, don't be surprised, if afterwards, he suddenly wants to become your best friend.
The main idea is to be creative and learn how to be aggressive. In America, a fist = power, respect, and love.
A final note: not all situations require being physical--be smart. But don't rule that out as a possibility. Life is more complex than that.
