Ghost Penguin: Advice to Teen Underachiever

isten,

I've just been through all that.
I got bad marks, went to a lousy university.

I worked my butt of in that uni and went to one of the top uni's in my state. I graduated last year.

I didn't do that well, cos I also had no idea what I was doing.

Then I took a year out after finishing uni.

My advice, don't start anything you aren't committed to. Find out what the hell you want to do with yourself. There's no point of throwing yourself at uni and all that like I did. I graduated in Accounting, but it's not what I want. So I never did well.

But now I'm focused and ready to kick butt and take names.

Long story short, an archer must see the target to have a chance of hitting it.
Have a target, not just some random shot in the dark.
From your description, you should redo high school with this in mind-

WITH EXCELLENT MARKS, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WANT.

You don't have to make up your mind, straight away, but FOCUS on getting excellent grades not because anyone told you to, or for you family or for your friends.

Do it because when you are ready, and you know what you want to do, you can take it. If you sort of half study like I did, and play around too much like I did, when I realised what I was going to do with my life, my grades didn't reflect my ability and my opportunities were limited.

DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

Ignore all the other social pressures because when you are a success, they will tell stories of how you pulled your socks up and you will be an example to your peers.

BUT IT'S NOT EASY! Nothing truly great was achieved quickly. I'm smart. What I didn't have was perseverence. This is the key. I know you are smart. Now you have to focus.

Do or do not, there is no try.
