Moon Rocke: Wants Tips on Combining Vietnamese Buddhist and Chrisitian Traditions for Wedding

'm a Vietnamese woman about to marry a Caucasian man by fall 2002. We are looking in how to combine a Vietnamese Buddhist religion with that of Christianity. How do we go about it? Which religion takes precedent?

Also, are there any Asian theme gardens and tea houses in California? We plan on holding a tea reception.

I'm open to any advices. Thanks, everyone!

YOUR ADVICE

Moon Rocke

Congrats. I am also a Vietnamese woman and Buddhist follower and my Caucasian man is Catholic. The good part is he is not into his religion but I would still be happy to be married in a church in respect for his mother who is very catholic. Also I have been married before with a Vietnamese man and our custom ceremony starts early in the morning around 10 am. So you could fit the Vietnamese tradition in the morning and then have the ceremony at church in the afternoon then go straight to the reception. You could also have the priest or judge come to other locations(your asian garden) to perform the ceremony. Just some suggestions. Good luck!

Moon Rocke,

Congrats on getting married!

I married a Buddhist woman, however, I was raised Lutherian.

When I asked my pastor to married us, he said no because she was pagan.

So unless it is a protestant sect which is very open minded about Pagans, it probably won't be happening on consecrated grounds. But out door wedding are good too.

In Japan, a lot of Zen Buddist and Christian get married. So maybe you can consult a Japanese wedding planner.
