Are AA Women the Real Victims of Prejudice?

sian women get a free ride at the expense of Asian men. That's the received wisdom here in the U.S. This belief appears premised on the suspicion that American society sees Asian women as sexy exotics in need of rescuing from the cold clutches of Asian men who don't know how to smile except evilly.

The real victim?

     Credit Hollywood for its tireless casting of Asian women as sexual accessories to white heroes while suppressing the very existence of Asian men except as unsavory paper tigers. Credit too the TV networks that uncover bevies of talking Asian women but rarely their male counterparts.
     In fairness this media fantasy of the Asian race was partly inspired by recent history. Devastated and impoverished Asian nations sent tens of thousands of war brides and orphans, followed by several million desperate immigrants willing to hock their identities while toiling to build new lives.
     Male-dominated societies toast new women as exotic sexual prospects while suppressing new men as an exploitable lower class or even enemy aliens. The women get all the breaks and the men get all the lumps. Even worse, the women have their heads turned and adopt a scornful attitude toward their own men. So goes the complaint of some AA men.
     The women have a different take. Sexual predators bearing insulting stereotypes must be fended off while coping with women who see them as unfair competitors. Add to that the pain of being scorned as sellouts by AA men for no more reason than their apparent welcome by American society. Worst of all, complain AA women, is being begrudged the right to take simple pleasure in their own identities. How much easier just to face straightforward racial prejudice!
     Do Asian women really have an easier time in America? Or do they suffer from the double-whammy of insulting stereotypes from non-Asians and unfair persecution from Asian men?

You would not believe the number of white women who don't believe an Asian guy would ever consider them.

I would believe this number. Just like I believe that their are White women who would be teased for dating an Asian man by White men.
I used to date a Korean guy and I believe I was tormented at least 7 times by White men saying things like..."I know hes not taking care of you right", "I know he aint hitting that the right way", "Why dont you get a real man and not a boy". It was so upsetting that I was in constant anguish over it. My boyfriend Jimmy Kim got beat up by a gang of rednecks angry to see an Asian male with a White woman. they would have shot him if the Cops hadnt come. what disgust me most of all is that Asian women choose to date white men that disrespect Asian men.

I dont believe this is True. Television will always have White Male Viewers in America. What I believe is that in an attempt to show that the television prgrammers "ARENT RACIST" they are doing there best to throw in at least one Asian or one African American as a sort of Patronizing attempt to dispell rumors of casting racism.
Look at UPN 9 for example. then look at ABC or NBC. Notice how the media seems to be quick to put Blacks on level with whites (and sometimes higher ex: Boston Public, Ally Mcbeal, Damon Wayans etc,etc,etc). HOWEVER look at the show ALL AMERICAN GIRL with Korean actress/comedian Margaret Cho. That show was interesting but lasted less than two seasons. Now their are no Asian American shows on Broadcast TV.
However, LUCY LIU can be thrown in as a TOKEN Asian dominatrix on Ally Mcbeal or Mel Gibson's "PAYBACK".
If you ask me, White males arent interested in Asian Culture at all. They are interested in the women as sex objects or status sybols. I just wish Asian women would stop playing into these roles. Its like "image prostitution" a perversion of peoples. Utterly disgusting.

So to make a long story short, the White supremacist racism that has been spread from British affairs in Asia has continued down the genealogical lines to the present where Asians would perfer to see their children marry Whites than marry Asians of different ethnicities.

Well thats really upsetting considering the fact that there are Asian men that culturaly consider marrying white women to be the hip thing to do as she would be a status symbol. What is very interesting is seeing a White woman and Asian man walking together. I have noticed that the woman always seems to walk quickly and pay attention directly ahead while shrugging off onlookers.

I have also noticed that white women and Black male couples recieve less attention than Asian M+White W couples.
On the other hand, White men+Black women couples or Black men and asian women couples recieve alot of attention. What I have never seen in my life is a Physicaly Oriental Asian male and a physicaly African American woman. (physicaly Asian= they are OBVIOUSLY Asian/oriental).
White supremacist racism has really screwed the world up I see. Im just glad that the African Americans didnt fall into this trap of berating non-white in laws. Asians have a long way to go.

i think what spites an asian guy the most is when they say an ATTRACTIVE asian woman with a white guy. when it's a not so attractive asian woman then they don't care. anyways, i think that's what the issue is. i think that attractive asian women either go for white guys (dorky or attractive) or plain asian guys. they don't go for attractive asian guys because they think they are players or they think they are gay! =P

But Ray, wouldnt the focus group on the west coast be the Latinos and Asians considering that Whites are now the new minority here? Wouldnt these groups be catered to like Whites were before? I always hear that media caters to the majority which is why we have to suffer these insulting stereotypes in movies with af/wm. Somehow I'm not so sure that only the bottom line is what motivates these people.' Feelgood' is an important reason for 'the man'to keep nonwhites drowning in racist crap that they dish out to the masses. In Cali we're supposed to be the new majority, well unfortunately old habits die hard with these folks, eh? So many times I hear that money is the driving factor in their decision making. Don't fall for that. Let's use 'Joy Luck Club' as a prime example. Obviously a movie like this is not targeted at White males. So why all the same old crap and then some directed at Asian males? Perhaps just an added bonus?

You would not believe the number of white women who don't believe an Asian guy would ever consider them. A lot of white women don't think Asian men find them attractive, or don't think an Asian man wouldn't consider them because they are divorced or something. Those are reasons I think many white women don't pursue Asian men. It's certainly not because they aren't appealing:)

True. Depends on what you call AM choices. Your family is pretty broad minded considering the fact that you are allowed to date and inter-mingle with Koreans. But, many Asian families bring historic baggage from Asia. Thus, it is more acceptable to date and marry whites rather than other Asians, if a member in your ethnic group is not available. In my research, I found a old man (Asian), who has disowned his son for marrying another Asian ethnicity, but accepts his son-in-law who is white. Incidentally, the white son-in-law has been disowned by his white family for marrying Asian. So, sure there are choices. But if you are a Khmer, how many other Khmers you find in your High School or neighborhood. Other Asians do not count due to intra-Asian prejudice. The issue is not just biology as white Americans think, it is also history and intra-Asian sociology. It is a shame!
