ADVANTAGES OF BEING ASIAN AMERICAN

or some the only downer to being Asian American is being lumped with all the whiners.
     The problems that afflict us? No different from those faced by all Americans, they argue. Vincent Chin? Won a barroom fight and was ambushed in the parking lot by a pair of drunken sore losers with a baseball bat. Happens to white guys too. Media stereotypes? Would you rather be cast as a beer-guzzling milquetoast with a spare tire and a perpetual sunburn? Not to mention being unable to jump, dance or multiply.
     Weigh the trivial irritations against the big advantages, exhort the upsiders. Like being raised in two-parent families that provide emotional stability, a solid educational foundation, a multi-cultural perspective and healthy eating habits. Like being seen as innately more intelligent, diligent and honest. Like having a full head of hair past 30 and never having to shave your back. Sure, the new immigrants have a rough time, they concede, but compare apples to apples. The Census Bureau stats show that U.S.-born Asians do as well as any group and better than most.
     So what's your take? Are we getting a raw deal or are we just too busy complaining to appreciate our many advantages?

I had many, from fighting with my dad to being kicked out of the house. I remembered I had to live off from my cousin for a sometime before I was on my own.

Yeah, I came from a very dysfunctional family. My parents were of peasant background with a pessimistic nature, so they and I were living in 2 different worlds. I owe them certain things, and soon I will pay up all my debts to them...

Yeah, thanks, I'm still fighting them. I see them as stepping stones not stumbling blocks. Being a New Yorker makes everything tougher...but I'm ready for any challenges.

That's interesting. From my understanding of the different race in the US...the whites tend to be complacent, the blacks are outspoken, and the asians are HUMBLE. Maybe you must think we think we are the best to justify your lack of success?

How does this correlates with the people's work ethics? Statistics have shown americans to be the fattest and most lazy....whereas in china (b/c of the lack of modern technology), they endure more physical labor making them much healthier than americans. If hardwork determines a country's economic status, than the US should be the poorest.

Where did you get your information? And how do suppose an educated, motivated foreigner can be distinguish from an uneducated, motivated foreigner? I recall our family had to pay several ounces of gold per person to come to the US, I dont recall any testings that determined our motivational or educational capabilities.

But there still prevails, Asians in the US who are not successful - check out the pervasiveness of Asian gangs in the West Coast.
Like the pervasiveness of White, Italian, Latino, and Black gangs?

Hey, are you a complete ignorant fool? I suppose you are not Asian and if you are, I have a First! you are definitely the first idiotic "Asian" I have ever encountered! I am pleased that the US still contains many surprises for me, such as meeting an ignoramus such as yourself! Well, onward! Enough with the insults!
First of all, your "argument" or whatever you wish to call it, is certainly flawed for numerous reasons..One, you clearly stated that "Asians come over here, and act like they are the best race"..well, maybe because it is proven we ARE superior to most races..certainly, we are morally superior to the US..haha Please don't even compare the two..and yes, we are , for the majority ( as a group) smarter than any other racial group in the States, including the dominant White majority! and all this, compared to Whites, who have been here the longest, not having to encounter cultural and language barriers! haha..how idiotic of White people! and of course, the immigrants that came to the US came in search for a better life, so therefore, the Immigrants in the US are not of "superior breed" compared to their counterparts in their ancestral homelands..wow..haha..so, the Asian Americans that are here, succeed..another thing, China has a corrupt dictatorship. hello! ( this is what is wrong with the US education system and why it is SOOOOO easy for Asians to succeed),,and yes, China will outsucceed European countries..what about Japan.. JApan is the second richest country in the world, second only to the US..and look at the size of the US compared to Japan..US has way more resources, a bigger population (workforce), and was inherently blessed with Asian immigrants! however, Japan is not that far behind the US , even with what resources Japan lacks..and China has ALWAYS been a "threat" to the US..hello! ever read any books concerning the future of CHina , written by US authors?! China , it is predicted, will far exceed the US by the year 2060..and most European nations by the year 2010..also, look at the HUGE opportunities presented in China..remember, China is STILL a third world country but has entered the WTO! haha..what does that tell you? or should i spell it out for you (literally)? and Affirmative action, while it may have worked in the past, due to American racism ( how uncivilized can American be?!) has worked for Asians..it is now working AGAINST us! look at the quotas imposed on Asian american students because we are so "over-represented" in the elite schools..well, it is proven that we outperform all racial groups, yet we still get the shaft..but DESPITE THIS, we still constitue a fairly large presence! It sounds like you got your skivvies in a jam..a little jealous ? you are a LOSER..why are you on this site anyway? ask yourself that? was it to deliver that cute little speech? haha..get lost, we dont need your trash on this site,,,oh, by the way, who introduced bathing to the Western world? But then again, you would probably think one of the Western countries, huh? WRONG..Japan, China..and who wins the competitions on mathematics and sciences time and time again? the only reason the US is up there is because of the Asian Americans! Singapore, South Korea, HOng Kong, Japan..we always win ! not to mention, we all have low crime rates than any other country in the world..US, Western Europe, hell, all of Europe, etc, etc..yes, i believe that the US is an OK place to live..let the underdogs have a place to shine..if we were back in our homelands, chances are, we wouldnt be able to compete with the other people..too difficult a competitition..so, here we are in America..haha..anyway, my point being , it is stupid people like you that make America appear bad..so get a life, and get out of here! Because during the turn of the 20th century the 5 western powers (Germany, France, USA, England, and Portugal) agree on the "Open Door" Policy initiated by the USA. To make a long story short they annex Chinese land, demanded large cash repariation for the Opium War. And basically robbed China by gunpoint.

This spawn xenophobia among the future Chinese gov't. In short they don't really believe anything USA got to say anymore.

During the middle ages in Europe Chinese explorers already discovered the tip of Africa. When they went back China developed "Isolationist" government policy. They did want anything to do with India or what ever other nations were out there. Historian have often speculated what would have happened if these Chinese explorer went around the tip of Africa to Europe. They could have conquer Europe with the 12 ships and the most advanced technology at the time. Oh well, not all advance nations of their time believe in colonialism or expansionism.

Sorry to hear you are poorly educated. But have no fear the Great USA will employee your sorry a** at the next Mickey D. And yes I would like to super-size it, the next time you take my order.

ABC in cantonese are called "xia lo" (little brother) in HK. ^_^. I think the proper pronouciation would be "Mei Gok Hua Kew" (USA overseas chinese).

If you're hungry for knowledge become Chinese literate and read it for yourself, this way you can draw your own conclusions.
