LISA LING & RICK YUNE
(Updated Tuesday, Apr 1, 2008, 06:06:43 PM)

he's the most watched Asian woman on American TV. He's the year's hottest Asian American movie hunk. She's 26. He's 29. She's 5-5. He's 6-1. She's Chinese. He's Corean. Both are unquestionably American. She's daringly bubbly. He's recklessly intense. What makes them special to many AA minds is that they defied the odds and the unwritten laws of the American media to become the lone bona fide Asian American star couple.
Rick Yune was barely one when his family left his native Seoul, Corea for Silver Springs, Maryland. His education has been enviably ivy-covered -- private schools topped off by a Wharton MBA. Then came a stint as a Wall Street stock trader and modeling for Versace and Polo. He made a memorable film debut in December 1999 as a young Japanese American husband accused of murder in Snow Falling on Cedars. Yune's character walks and gets the girl. A breathless Newsweek profile didn't hurt his career. His intense and classic Asian features add sizzle to The Fast and the Furious (2001) and will undoubtedly do the same for The Fence (2001).
Lisa Ling is a Sacramento native who got her start in TV at the age of 15 as a reporter for a syndicated teen magazine show called Scratch. Just as she was about to leave for Boston University, Channel One asked her to become one of its peripatetic on-air reporters. She attended USC while working full-time at Channel One's Hollywood studio. All her dates at USC were white, it's rumored. Soon after graduating she joined the panel of The View, ABC's popular daytime talkshow and began spending time with a Disney exec named Morgan Wandell. The fact that Disney is ABC's parent company led to resentment and innuendo. What really raised AA eyebrows was an Old Navy commercial showing Ling cavorting with a group of men and uttering the line "I like my men strong and good-looking". The beef? None of the five men are Asian.
Little wonder that many were skeptical of rumors that surfaced in early 2000 that Ling and Yune had become a couple. Some speculate that it's a sign that Asian men are ascendant. Others suspect it's just Ling's effort at rehabilitating her image with her Asian American viewership. Still others are just glad to see an Asian-Asian star couple at long last.

I had heard Lisa Ling was involved with someone from "The Fast and the Furious. I assumed it was Vin Diesel.....I am SO relieved to know I was wrong!!!!!!!!! I LOVE VIN DIESEL!!!!!! I really don't care what Lisa does. I just came to this site to see if Vin was her man.

I just met Lisa the other night at a fundraiser for an Asian theater group. She is absolutely beautiful in person with no make-up on. I was so impressed. She was also hysterical and lovely. She won the room over instantly with her charm and wit. She's so repressed by those other women on the View. As a mild fan of Lisa's before, I must say my friends and I have converted to full blown Lisa admirers.

Rick Yune is a dimwit. He doesn't speak korean, and he doesn't have no "classic" asian features dudes and dudetettes. Also, Lisa Ling's "oriental" face is on that show or whatever, next to tubby black and some old white ladies, and she hardly ever says a thing, she just nods her head while the black babbles on like a stereotypical black and the whites say the profound lines. dudes, it's all bullshit and whatever analysis yall may make of the couple, they probably not even a copule anymore and basically, he can get chicks and she can get dudes, and who cares yall.

basically, i dno't think they look good together cause i think mr. yune would look better with a big fat white chick with really awesome character, that will really make people think eh? and I think lisa would look good with a big fat white chick as well.

Asian Americans like other ethnic groups need a strong presence in America and the rest of the world. We are all(Asian Americans) striving to make our presence and existence known so that we become more real. I hope one day the "Asian American" term is not used to describe Asian American celebrities or high achievers; I think that's when we as Asian Americans will feel more comfortable being fellow human beings rather than copiously marketing the Asian-Americaness to promote our presence in the world and feel more at ease with ourselves

Rick Yune is lucky to have Lisa. He's an actor who memorizes lines. She's hot and has amazing legs.

Isn't it sad how we are disappointed when a female television personality isn't beautiful? Lisa Ling deserves all the good fortune she gets because she worked hard to get it. If she was a guy, would people really care if she was attractive or not? The answer is no. Just take a look at what we have to look at on FOX, MSNBC and the rest of the networks. She represents the majority of American women: She's average looking. I'm happy for her.

i don't know what to say about this...but rick yune was quoted in an interview saying that asian men need white woman as a symbol of power and class....as an asian woman, i was outraged...i thought he was good looking before he said that..and then he hooks up with lisa ling?! i dunno...there are a lotta asian women out there with more to offer...she's not that great looking...my point is...i'm not gonna be looking towards them for any asian rep. cause i don't think they're worthy of it...

I don't care if Lisa Ling is pretty or not. Doesn't it matter that at least now there are some Asian women on T.V.? I don't want to be racist but I've been listening to just white girls on T.V. all the time and it's nice to have an Asian presence on T.V that's not a stereotype. I mean a lot of Asians are sayin that there isn't enough Asian Influence in the media but now that we have on we have to bring it down. And Lisa Lingand Rick Yune as a couple? That's really none of our business.
