AA MEN SEEK OUT NON-ASIAN WOMEN

sian women are only interested in non-Asian men and don't give Asian men the time of day. That's the reason cited by many AA men for dating and marrying non-Asians. A minority of AA men say they simply find non-Asian women more physically attractive or more appealing in terms of personality, values and interests. Whatever the reasons, the rates at which young Asian men are dating and marrying non-Asian women are quickly approaching the rates at which Asian women are outdating and outmarrying (about 38%). Some Asian women are complaining that they aren't getting a fair shake because Asian men have been brainwashed by media standards of desirability.
     What are the real reasons for so many Asian men seeking out non-Asian women? How do Asian women really feel about this trend? Who benefits most from it? Will the trend continue? We want to hear your views.

An old-money WASP woman may be assumed to be someone from a family which has remained upper-middle class for at least over a century, "preferably" from before 1850. These folks usually make their money via business, law, or government. The boys are "trained" for it by typically attending an Ivy or other elite colleges like Middlebury and are named George I, II, III, etc. pseudo-British style. Likewise, the girls either attend Ivies or Seven Sisters colleges (Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Wellesley, etc.). Elite education is still important for the WASP woman, even if she remains largely decorative at functions, because she needs to preside over them and carry a half-way intelligent and informed conversation so as to not embarrass hubby.

Hey, don't worry about your "apparent lack of English skills." An Ivy education doesn't always guarantee perfect style...I've had some undergrads at Oxford who could still review their use of punctuation and no-excuse spelling lists.

Those in-laws of your cousin sound like the worst. Altho' I wonder if they're not also like that with other whites. One of my white friends, who's part Jewish, grew up in a WASPy NJ neighborhood and still has bad memories about the place. Today, she lives in Boston and talks about the snotty Boston brahmins.

More to the point, I also remember when one of my WF friends married an immigrant from HK. Her mother (Belgian born) didn't mind, but her recent stepfather was absolutely disgusted. This might partly have had something to do with the fact that she came from an upper-middle-class family, whereas he was from a lower-middle-class background, but I know the race factor was definitely there when he complained about how those people were not mingling with the other wedding guests and only liked "cheap" food. (The way he said it, you knew it meant "cheap Chinese food.")

Of course, as I've pointed out in an earlier post, there are nice WASPs--just like any other race having its share good people and bad ones who seem to fulfill the worst stereotypes of their kind. Just bear in mind that most of the WASPs who do act snotty are usually the ones who are probably not all that well educated themselves. They're usually ones who either got in by legacy alone (WHITE MAN's affirmative action as I call it) or barely passed college and have only that to hang onto. The sight of an Asian with better qualifications unnerves them so that they will treat better educated Asians with an overcompensating contempt.

P.S. Yes, I'm from Chicago--tho a transplant from the Bronx and NJ. Did you grow up in Chicago or Evanston?

For example, I'm Thai and I'm married to a great Cambodian person. I seem to relate to other Asians better than Non-Asians."

This is an article about Asians dating Non-Asians. There is actually equal if not more prejudice regarding Asians marrying other Asians...though I am all for it. Kindly read Denise Hyun's article about why she ended up marrying a white man.

EPISCOPALIANS? OF MAYFLOWER DESCENT!

(Asian Dominatrix, I’ll enclose the rest of my post to you in parentheses to insulate myself against blame for hijacking the thread.

The Mayflower Pilgrims were Separatist Puritans who broke with the Church of England in the early Seventeenth Century. The Episcopalian Church, on the other hand, was founded only after the American Revolution by the Anglican Tory, Samuel Seabury, for the obvious reason that it would have been rather anomalous after the Revolution to continue to recognize the King’s authority over the American Anglican Church.

I suppose by now there may be some random Episcopalians among the Mayflower descendants, but their Mayflower forbears are undoubtedly rolling in their graves.

The best speculation on the etymology of “British” is “Pretanni,” a people of uncertain origin who predated the Roman occupation of Great Britain. The Angles and Saxons didn’t migrate to the British Isles until around the middle of the Fifth Century, B.C.E.

More importantly though, Dom, you really ought to meet some DAR members. Maybe meeting a few would puncture your stereotype of the DAR just as meeting a few “WASPs” punctured your stereotype of them.)

One is descended from a British refugee and the other from a Chinese refugee (?). NO difference there other than skin color.

Happens all the time in my family. A woman I am related who is an official for an Asian government (a well developed country) is married to an American WASP...his family has threatened to "teach him a lesson if he ever showed up in the US for not marrying a "decent girl" ie., of WASP extraction." Generally, my extended family's experience is that the whites who are descended from recent immigrants (from the late 1800s and after the Civil War) tend to be accepting and sympathetic to recent immigrants when it comes to marriage...the longer their families have lived in the states, the more they are bigoted!

I presume you live in Illinois. I was in downstate Illinois two days ago. The state is trending Democratic...and is almost similar to New Jersey in most respects. However, the big problem the Democratic Party officials acknowledge is that they do not have a good WASP or Irishman running. Mayor Daley does not plan on running for governor. Their leading candidate is a Polish American congressman. There is a feeling that the white people downsate would not vote for the Polish American as he is not considered a "real white"., ie., DAR or Irish. Thus, it gives that crook, Jim Ryan a chance of becoming the governor. Ryan made his career railroading minorities while he was a DA in Dupage county, and several people he convicted have been set free. Given the current economic trends (recession), Democrats should sweep Illinois. However, a Polish American or an African American candidate may be exactly the tonic the state GOP needs. If the Polish American becomes governor, that would be a first and a small miracle in itself.

"But whether they would let their children marry a non-WASP or ethnic minority is another question too!"

Remember the movie Love Story. They would not even let their children marry a well qualified and employed WASP who rose up from humble means (and they say that they do not have a class system like in the UK).
