AA MEN SEEK OUT NON-ASIAN WOMEN
(Updated )
sian women are only interested in non-Asian men and don't give Asian men the time of day. That's the reason cited by many AA men for dating and marrying non-Asians. A minority of AA men say they simply find non-Asian women more physically attractive or more appealing in terms of personality, values and interests. Whatever the reasons, the rates at which young Asian men are dating and marrying non-Asian women are quickly approaching the rates at which Asian women are outdating and outmarrying (about 38%). Some Asian women are complaining that they aren't getting a fair shake because Asian men have been brainwashed by media standards of desirability.
What are the real reasons for so many Asian men seeking out non-Asian women? How do Asian women really feel about this trend? Who benefits most from it? Will the trend continue? We want to hear your views.
Asian Dominatrix,
"no-excuse spelling list", I like that phrase. I think I'll use it from time to time from now on, granted I'm NOT the greatest speller. THANK GOD FOR MICROSOFT! hehehee... Actually, I don't know too much about my cousin's in-laws other than they're white and somewhat racist. I'm pretty sure my cousin and his wife don't speak to them all that often. I don't think however, that the debate was over class due to the fact that my "cousin in-law's" family was probably equal in "class" to my family. My cousin is a doctor at UCSF medical center and his parents are both PH.D's and therefore upper-middle-class. I'd imagine his wife's family would be of similar background as she's also a doctor at UCSF.
All in all, I completely agree with you that there are nice WASPs in the world and that racism is NOT defined by race. All races can be bigotted and arrogant including our own. But why is it that many WASPs (male/female)feel threatened by Asian Americans? Do they think we're taking away from their pie? hmm... I guess I don't see it as much in the scientific fields. Could it be that they've already lost the hi-tech pie?
Actually, my parents met and were married in Chicago (Libertyville) due to the fact that my mother went to U of Chicago for grad school. My mother lived in my father's brother's house at Evanston for a while after she graduated and was looking for a job. When my father earned his PH.D., both my parents moved to St. Louis where I was born since my father took a job there. From that point on my family bounced around from St. Louis to Chicago for a couple of years so I'm quite familiar with that area (Though I'll never leave California.).

Jesus, if these old-money WASP's are so terrible, why don't you people just avoid them? It can't be that difficult unless you're a would-be social climber. I don't know any blue-bloods of the type you guys are describing and I can't imagine that they have a large presence outside of Edith Wharton novels.
Asian Dominatrix, you are especially bad in this respect. For someone from a supposedly modest background, you seem to possess an inexplicable need to hobnob with elites. I had a reasonably comfortable upbringing, and I can't think of a single white friend or neighbor who was not of Irish or Italian descent. They were fine, friendly folks with no stupid pretensions.
This is a very annoying trait I see in many Asian Americans, but also in Jews and other well-to-do minorities. They desperately want to lord it over other Americans and can't stand it when they meet someone who is smug enough not to give a crap about them.
Forget the country club and try to enjoy the wealth and success you have earned.

The contributions to this thread are a little disappointing. I may have more to say about the idiosyncratic and casually bigoted common use of the term "WASP" if the thread goes on in its present direction. Briefly, the people sneered at as "WASPs" practically never are, and most WASPs are unoffending, ordinary people who lead unoffending, ordinary lives.
By the way, Asian American Male, "Love Story" was a work of fiction written by a Jew (and the female lead was an Italian American, "Jenny Cavilleri"). Is this typical of the sources from which you derive your ideas of what "WASPs" must be like?
(Also by the way, in my last post "B.C.E." should have been "C.E.")

"His name should be Will Hung--as in WELL Hung! Hee hee hee!!!"
HGrrrL:
What a bigot! You think it is funny eh? WELL HUNG!! Do you think that we all are living in Jasper, Texas or somewhere in Louisiana? Or are we living in Rosewood, Florida of the 1920s.

Roger,
Ok, you're probably right about the Mayflower pilgrims not being Episcopalian: they were most likely Dissenters who fled because they disagreed with King James I (VI of Scotland) who leaned more towards Catholic than Anglican himself.
It's probably true than the real WASPs are Presbyterian or even Baptist (altho' I'm not sure that actually existed at that time). However, today, most people do tend to assume that WASPs are Episcopalian: one might imagine a Puritan deciding to turn Episcopalian in the 18th c. after making money (yes, Puritans believed that money was a sign of being saved!) to schmooze with the Episc. officials sent by the king and government.
I have never met a DAR--even at my Seven Sisters college. Sad to say, some of my white friends there have already prejudiced me against them...heh heh heh.
Have you actually dated any DAR yourself?

Asian American Male,
"One is descended from a British refugee and the other from a Chinese refugee (?). NO difference there other than skin color."
Nicely put bro... very true, how soon one forgets huh? My cousin grew up in the U.S. as did his wife's parents, apparently there is NO difference other than race. Well to tell you the truth, I'm NOT certain of his wife's parents, but I do will say the my cousin and his wife are doing their residency at UCSF medical center. So as far as education goes, they're equal. I can't imagine how her parents could more outstanding however. But to their credit, I don't know much about them. Heck, I don't know ANYTHING about them except that they're white hehehee... So how's your relative's situation now, is it still so... well, puzzling?
Thanks,
Kevin Yang
