AA MEN SEEK OUT NON-ASIAN WOMEN
(Updated )
sian women are only interested in non-Asian men and don't give Asian men the time of day. That's the reason cited by many AA men for dating and marrying non-Asians. A minority of AA men say they simply find non-Asian women more physically attractive or more appealing in terms of personality, values and interests. Whatever the reasons, the rates at which young Asian men are dating and marrying non-Asian women are quickly approaching the rates at which Asian women are outdating and outmarrying (about 38%). Some Asian women are complaining that they aren't getting a fair shake because Asian men have been brainwashed by media standards of desirability.
What are the real reasons for so many Asian men seeking out non-Asian women? How do Asian women really feel about this trend? Who benefits most from it? Will the trend continue? We want to hear your views.
FOP,
You're right in that minorities advance higher in the US than the UK. I call it the trickle-down affirmative action effect even tho' we Asians don't seem to benefit directly from it here. This is especially pronounced in academia where East Asians sometimes make up less than .2% (not 2%)of any faculty.
Do you remember the name of the soap?
If you were there in fall '98 at all, BTW, you might remember one short film which aired on either BBC 1 or about an AM owner of a laundromat w/ Asian family newly married to a WF. I can't think of the title!! There was also a Beeb special on IR, mostly tho' from the point of view of WF's married to minorities. (It was a rather disappointing show overall in that they made it seem as tho' WF's are more courageous than any other type of women in IR.)
P.S. You're right about the English still hating the French.

"He's read to many Zen books and thinks by acting out the "everything but yet nothing" fantasy on the board"
hehe, i guess it's like the psychiatrists' mantra about self-therapy. NEVER PRACTICE SELF ZEN!
usually in real life i see some AF/WM harping about AM i respect their right to opinions/stupidity, but reading nonstop ramblings on this board gets too much sometimes.
anyhow, zen reminds me of the book 'zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance' good read? never got around to it yet but always on the reading list.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Asian Dominatrix…
Nope, your old man isn't the only one who would scoff at your decision to pursue a career in the humanities. Personally, I don't think adverse reaction to a child's career choice is race dependent. Many of us grew up thinking our Asian parents were of that particular fashion, however I've met MANY Caucasian friends who've remarked similar stories about their parents. Whatever the case, I find it rather amusing that you brought up "straight" men in your description of your career. I say this due to the fact that though most of the males (mostly Asian males) in engineering and math were "straight", many sure as heck did NOT act like it. I would say that they're somewhere in between. I do know however, that most EE/Math students need to take courses in social behavior. I did NOT hang out with my fellow engineers very often back in college due to this problem. Hmm…, as far as my dating history goes: business consultant, economist, violinist, international relations, pharmacist, doctor, NOPE… never dated an engineer either. Guess I’m not too fond of people in my field. I mean, it's possible for a physical science person NOT to be a geek, but the majority is. Just keep in mind that there are MANY engineers in this world (like myself) who are interested in other subjects as well. I for instance, LOVE sociology and history, not to mention 15 years of piano (by my own choice thank you hehehee…). EE/MATH to me, is more of a job (means to pay the bills) than anything else. Heck, if I actually had a choice back in college, I'd probably study Asian Am studies, racial issues, or something like that. But of course, you know how it goes...
Thanks,

Hi,
I agree that in the US... Midwest or Norteast there's fewer AM/WF IR dating, however that's because there's a less concentration of Asians there. I've met midwestern girls and they are some of the nicest people i've ever met. Midwesterners are very down to earth, both male and female. I know I shouldn't generalize a whole geographic region, but I just wanted to say that the people i've met from that area are all great... perhaps i'm lucky...

happy valentines.
." No man would be friendly to a girl, unless he wants what is under her shirt, bra, skirt, pants, etc. Man and woman can't be real friends. There is an ulterior motive. Nothing is really platonic between the different genders. The man, he is friendly to a woman only for the ultimate purpose of scoring with her"
ummm...i am sorry but u gotta be seriously not right in the head to think that ...nearly all my friends are females ..3 of them are pretty white college girls who works part time at my parent's chinese resturant ..i can assure u I don't want to score with any of them believe it or not most guys don't think with their penis .some of us value friendship more than sex!
quite a shocker huh?

villageidiot,
Don't mind Roger too much. He's read to many Zen books and thinks by acting out the "everything but yet nothing" fantasy on the board he will be more like an wise old AM.
Other than that he's harmless.

What's all this talk about Asian Females abondoning asian males? I just don't see this trend. I see pleanty of asian couples together, happy and in love. Sure there are interracial pairings, but i see asian males and females romatically involved with other peoples and other cultures.
Asian females are certainly interested in me as are some whites and latinos.
I think this idea of asian females abondoning asian males by the millions is an exageration.

Asian Dominatrix,
I was in a Portsmouth's boarding school, in Southern England. Yes, I remember there was a soap opera in the late 80's featuring a Chinese male and his family. He was involved romantically with an English woman. Interesting to know that there are more IRs by percentage in the UK than in the US. The Brits are more hostile towards French than their minorities. However, minorities advance better in their careers in the US than in the UK.
