A Dance in Idaho Falls
ll of these stories bring back great memories. I remember my very first dance with a girl way back in 1990 when I was 19 years old. I was living in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at the time. As you can imagine, that was quite a culture shock since I grew up in Southern California. You were as likely to see an asian face in Idaho as you were to see Rush Limbaugh in Compton California. Idaho Falls was quite a 'dead' city in terms of nightlife, so every Friday night, I would drive down to Blackfoot with a friend because there was a local dance club there. One night I was feeling quite "brave" and I heard my favorite song being played, Bobbi Brown's "Rock with you." I saw a very pretty white girl standing with a friend near the dance floor. She had wavy blonde hair and blue eyes. I politely asked her if I could dance and she said yes. Since I was so clumsy she kind of showed me how to slow dance. Afterwards I thanked her and that was that. She probably was surprised, and I was most likely the first asian guy she's ever seen (laugh out loud). Anyways, even though nothing happened besides the short dance, I'll always remember that day with a smile.
