Snow Phoenix, Handsome Dragon

y four month old twins taught me a very imporatant lession in love.
When I was pregnant, my husband and I would get the most horrified looks from people as we were cruising the malls or just out and about holding down our business. They would never be so bold as to say a thing, but it was just how they looked. Black dudes were practically screaming "sell-out" and I found a lot of black women would not even look me in the eye as they were serving me if my husband was near. His golden skin next to my lovely expresso was too much of a distraction. We were amused for a second when 'Romeo Must Die' came out. My husband endured the catcalls of 'Hey, Jet Li, is that your Aaliyah?' wherever we went, but that got old. Even white women looked aghast. It was as if the world was rooting against us.
Then the strangest thing began to happen. When I re-emerged from a lengthy hospital stay with two tiny bundles of happiness, people still stopped to stare, but now they were actually walking up to us to coo and smile and awe at our babies. Perfect strangers have no trouble detaining us for fifteen minutes at a time, asking every friendly-but-nosy question they can. Are they identical? Do they eat/sleep at the same time? Who was born first? A family outting to the store can become somewhat of a chore, as we are approached in every aisle and grilled w/the same old questions from a new set of strangers; when just six months earlier they couldn't see us out fast enough.
My children have taught me a very interesting lession in human behavior. The first theory, being tried and true, is that everyone loves babies. The second most powerful thing is that blending the colors of the rainbow brings people closer together.
