Canadian AM Coping with Anger over Racism

'm a 30, Westernized Asian Male living In Canada. For years I've dealt with pretty much the abuse of "stereotypes" that not only have worn me out "Emotionally" but also on a "Spiritual" level. I think that's why I get that "why do you always look soooo angry" remark. I think that has also resulted in making me a bit of a Loner, which is actually something I don't really mind. I sure don't fit the stereotrype (5'11, 200lbs, athletic, well educated), But despite the alienation of say from caucasians, they're not the ones that upset me. It's more like the "Westernized" Asians that works sooo hard in Being an "Individual" that they seem to give out an AUra of hostility towards their fellow asain. Don't believe me? go into a PUB.. if there's an Asian fella working the room (trying to score with a caucasian woman perhaps) you'll see how quickly he'll try to avoid you like the plague. sometimes it's worse with Asian women. Just an observation. none the less, it stinks.

P.S. I've been reading the POSTs good stuff. But it isn't just the USA that's kind of Hostile towards Asians, it's also Canada. I'm starting to wonder if there is any place for an Asian Person that's been "westernized" at all.

Oh and another thing? when can I stop fighting this Racism crap? I mean next to maintaining a career, a relationship and family duties.. sometimes being Angry all the time is tiring. Later. Asian Canuck

READER COMMENTS

Oh, by the way, I learned about this in college. My professor, half white, half Japanese, who looks more white than asian gave his students a very elaborated critique on the topic of racism. He pulled out a reference from one of the European philosophy books which had a hierarchal social order in which the Europeans ranked the human race:

1. Europeans
2. Asians
3. Malays
4. Blacks
5. Indigenous People

I don't know, but for the most part his notion & arguments seem to have validity based on my own personal experience. It gave me a general understanding of how and why society works the way that it does.

To answer your question:

Never. There will always be racism. You will experience that even amongst your own ethnicity, but to a smaller degree. As for the caucasians, there will always be racism amongst them, no matter how much you try to avoid thinking that way, it will always be there.

Racism, in their history, is very deeply rooted w/in their culture & philosophy. Nowadays, its hard to spot a racist, because they need to show more "tolerance" in order to economically dominate the global market, but it's still there.

The whole "America is a melting pot" idea is very much b.s. It probably only refers to the European immigrants, who first immigrated to America back in the colonial days. In reality, their mentality is that minorities will never be socially equal. Look at the top business executives, mostly all of the top dogs, the controllers of the companies, are white. (Even in the members of the G-8 party)

Racism will always be there, politically speaking. There is no such thing as a single place that is an ideal, "westernized" Asian Utopia, because racism is everywhere.

Lots of people might argue against me, but it's the sad truth. Some white people are an acception to the rule, because they are the open minded ones, so I wouldn't totally discredit them. However, it almost seems like the more (democratic) industrial cities like L.A. & N.Y. are a more prefererd place for Asians to mingle with other races.
