EXCERPT:

The Ages Flow
The old brown photo album.
Grandfather's pictures tell of
Meiji, Taisho, Showa--
all the ages slowly
flowing by.
Smelling a little moldy,
the black-and-white photos
tell sturdily a tale of history.
Ikenaga Eri, fifth grade.
My Family
I was born
in the year of the rooster
so I wake up early.
My brother was born
in the year of the monkey
so he likes to climb trees.
My father was born
in the year of the dragon
so he likes to eat spicy food
and breathes fire.
My mother was born
in the year of the sheep--
but she doesn't really
seem like one.
Ueda Akie, third grade
