ASIAN AMERICAN MEDIA NEWS
TV Series to Chronicle Complete Japanese American History

CTS/Seattle Public Television has announced the development of what is thought to be the first TV documentary series to present a comprehensive overview of the Japanese American experience. Working-titled The Japanese American Saga, the series will consist of 3 one-hour programs produced in high-definition TV (HDTV) format for national public television broadcast. It will cover a span of 150 years but will be anchored to the experiences of contemporary Japanese Americans ranging from average people to international celebrities.
The Japan-United States Friendship Commission awarded the seed pre-production grant to take the project through a one-year period of research and development during which the program's content will be shaped and additional fundraising undertaken to finance its production to completion. Production wil begin in 2001 and is expected to be completed in late 2002. The project is an outgrowth of KCTS's Japan Connection initiative to develop and produce content on Asian-Pacific cultures for the North American market. (8/22/00)
