INTERACTIVE POLICY AND FAQ

What is the purpose of Goldsea Interactive?
It provides opportunities for intelligent discussions on topics of interest to our audience of educated, mature Asian American professionals.

Must I be an Asian American to participate?
No, but Goldsea Interactive exists specifically for the discussion of topics of interest to educated, mature Asian American professionals. Posters who forget this will be censored and/or banned.

What if I have good points but do not have good writing skills?
You are better off remaining a lurker and let others argue your position. We don't have the time to do extensive edits of posts and routinely omit/delete those that are unintelligible or require effort to decipher. Those who persist with such posts are banned.

I am having trouble registering.
The procedure is simple and quite rational:
  1. Click the "REGISTER" link at the top of the Goldsea Interactive Home.
  2. Enter the username and password you've chosen for yourself. The password must be entered in two fields to guard against typos. Enter a valid email address that you currently use. Enter it a second time to verify it.
  3. Read the Terms of Service, then check the "I agree" box.
  4. Click the "Submit my registration" button.
  5. Check the email account you provided in the registration form. You should receive an email within seconds of submitting the form. If you don't, make sure your email filtering program isn't inadvertently blocking the email.
  6. The email will provide a verification URL for you to click to (or cut and paste into your browser).
  7. Once you have accessed the verification page, type in your chosen username and password to log into Goldsea Interactive! (NOTE: Do not enter the user ID and access code that is also supplied in the verification email. Those are for use only in case you have trouble accessing the verification page!)
  8. Still can't make it work? Contact us via the CONTACT FORM
Why do I keep getting a message telling me that my email address is already registered to another user when it isn't being used by anyone else?
Our system is set up to prevent double registration. An email address can only be used by one member.
You had begun the registration process but failed to complete it. If so, the system has stored your email address and will prevent you from using the same email to begin a second registration process. If you are in this jam, seek help via the CONTACT FORM.

How will you use my email address? What is your privacy policy?
It will be used solely for member services like registration, PM (private messaging) and notices pertaining to your use of Goldsea Interactive. Unlike most sites, we do not sell email addresses. Our Privacy Policy is 100% absolute! We don't contribute to the SPAM pandemic.

Will you make my email address available to other members?
No. Any email contact by another member uses a blind redirection system. Only you can disclose your email by responding.

Why do I see only a few links? Why can't I read posts?
Most likely you failed to complete the registration process by clicking the link provided in the automated verification email sent by our server when you submitted your registration form. If you did not follow the directions in the verification email, you are not yet a member, merely someone in the process of validating. Only members can read the forums.
It's also possible that you may have been banned or placed on "validating" status due to misconduct or complaints by other members.

How do I post my photo?
It's easy. Just log in, then click the "My Controls" link on the upper right corner of any forum page. Then choose the "Upload/change my photo" option. That will take you to a dialogue box. Click the "Your Personal Photo" radio button, then either provide the URL of your photo or use the upload option to upload a photo from your PC or Mac. To upload, click the "Browse" button, then click through your computer folders until you find the photo you wish to select and upload.
Some members encounter initial difficulties in successfully uploading their photo. The problems are easily solved.
One common problem occurs when the photo you want to upload exceeds our 35K (kilobyte) file-size limit. If so, resolution of your photo is probably much higher than is necessary for the internet. The resolution should be set at 72 dpi, the internet standard. At that resolution, JPEG and GIF images within our pixel-size limit (75 x 90) would have file sizes of much less than 35K. Some photos are set at 300 dpi. It's easy to change the resolution by using any photo-editing software.
Another problem can occur if you are trying to upload images that have not been converted to the standard JPEG or GIF format. Any photo-editing software will have a menu option for converting photos to these formats.
To avoid distortion of your photo, supply its correct height and width in the blank boxes provided.
We have been told that on some browsers, the "I don't wish to use a photo" radio button becomes automatically selected, preventing a hyperlink or an upload. If this is happening, simply click the "Your Personal Photo" radio button before clicking the "Add this photo to my profile" button at the bottom of the page.

Why did you remove my photo?
The photo feature exists to let regular posters become more comfortable with one aother. We don't allow any use of images that has a contrary effect. We remove images that mislead, offend, advertise, infringe copyrights, sow confusion, annoy or violate our aesthetic sensibilities.

Do you censor or delete posts?
Absolutely. Obscene, hateful, promotional, offensive, libelous, misleading, disruptive, repetitive, irrelevant, poorly written, confusing or annoying posts are censored or deleted/omitted. We have also implemented automated censorship of offensive words and phrases and provide handy links for reporting violations.

Do you allow posts under multiple identities?
We see no good reason for this practice. Therefore we see posting under multiple identities as prima facie evidence of bad faith. Such posters will be exposed, ridiculed and banned.

Why is there such a time lag before my posts appear?
Your posting privilege may have been put on moderator-approve status due to the questionable nature of some recent post. We do this to prevent misguided or malicious posters from sabotaging discussions. If you persist with unacceptable posts, you will be banned.

I don't understand why I have been put on moderator-approve when I have not written anything offensive or hateful.
You may have submitted posts that are illiterate, confusing, annoying, repetitive or pointlessly off-topic. We discourage participation by those who simply lack the writing and thinking skills to contribute to a meaningful discussion.

Why can't I PM or email other members?
Our tiered memberships are designed to screen out those who join simply to abuse the PM (Private Message) or email redirection features. The PM feature is available only to Gold Members. Email redirection is available only to the Administrator and Moderators.

How do I become a Gold Member?
Gold Membership is one of the benefits you enjy when you become a Goldsea subscriber. Alternatively, you can qualify by posting an authentic photo of yourself, provide a non-promotional email address (i.e. something other than Hotmail or Yahoo type accounts), then submit 250 acceptable posts (we only count posts submitted after you have posted a photo and provided a non-promotional email address). In other words, you can become a Gold Member after you become well known to the Administrator and to other Goldsea Interactive members as someone who has joined in good faith and contributed positively to discussions.

Why am I unable to PM some members?
Only other Gold Members, Moderators and the Administrator can receive PMs.

How do I become a Moderator?
You must first become promoted to Gold Member status, then post 750 more approved posts. As a Moderator you will be able to send redirected email to other members. You will also be able to start new topics and polls even in otherwise restricted areas.

How do I report problems with the forums or with other members?
Use the "Report this Post" text link found on every post. We encourage you to help preserve Goldsea Interactive's status as host to the internet's most intelligent discussions.
