Reading back through these old posts made me think. First of the man I was chatting with in a local Korean bar the other night. He's is having trouble polishing his English, but admitted that he never leaves K-Town. I am starting lessons in his language so that's why I stopped in that bar on the way home (other than having an affinity for Soju

). I was taking yet one more opportunity to train my ear to the language, which he should be doing if he is ever going to feel comfortable with English. Maybe I will be able to get him to venture out into the rest of his city.
But I was also chuckling over the description of FOBbinesss, because I realized its not the foreigners here that it really fits. I think I am going to start using that term for the Americans I encounter who never learn anything beyond their office and their front door step!
