madplo,

Whatever. No one is saying white refs are favouring black players over an asian guy here. They may just not like a successful, rich and talented asian man receiving as much attention as Yao is. After all Yao defides the stereotypical image that has been place upon AM in western society.

Let's put it this way, if the league was 99.9% white with one black star, do you think the black star player will get the same treatment as the white stars by the refs?

Yao is pioneer for Asian baskeball players. With it he has receive a lot of attention and the same time there has also been a lot of resentment. Unfair treatment from the ref is someting he is going to have to deal with. I have seen a lot Yao's games this season. From what I've seen, for whatever reasons, he seems to get a lot BS fouls call on him than any other player. If you want to call it "questionable", fine. It seems to me that there have been a lot more "quesionable" calls against him than against any other player.

I'd say a lot of the BS calls on Yao are because he's so damn big, and contact with him is going to cause the other guy to fly backward a lot. Shaq used to get called for BS fouls a lot, too.

I think in the NBA, the refs favor certain players and certain coaches. For instance, when Phil Jackson was coaching the Bulls, it seemed that no one dared try to defend MJ or even Scottie Pippen because they were sure to get a call if they tried to get too physical with them. Jackson was a whiz at convincing refs to give his guys a break. Shaq and Kobe benefitted from this kind of special treatment when Jackson was in L.A.

I think the refs just happen to not like Jeff Van Gundy all that much. I don't think it's racism against an Asian guy. I mean, Yuta Tabuse didn't get bogus calls on him, did he? He plays guard and is a fairly small guy, while Yao is perhaps the biggest guy in the NBA today.

The NBA is kind of a softer version of professional wrestling.

Its not really a pure sports in the sense that the same rules apply to everyone.
There is a tendency for nonconsistency in enforcement of the rules and when or who they enforce the rules.

A few select players tend to get favorable rulings and often get away with infractions that should be called against them.

At certain time periods of the game, the intensity and consistancy of enforcing the rules of the game goes from strict (to "not let things get out of control") to relaxed ("let them play").

Until there is a true consistency and there is a level playing field in terms of enforcement by the officials who call the games, NBA lacks integrity as a pure sports based on the player's ability and rules enforced on equal and fair basis.

So a player that is not favored by the league officals or given exceptional preference, no matter how talented and intense the athletic effort, this player performance will not reflect his true ability and the outcome will be always skewed for marketing and media consumption by the NBA.
