i don't get this...there's supposed to be this bill coming up where when entering a federal building or an airplane, immigrants cannot use their state-issued driver's licenses..

that sounds fine on the surface...

but what about asians w/ u.s. citizenship? what's y.t. gonna do when these innocent people enter federal buildings or airplanes??? they shouldn't have the extra burden of having to carry their passports around....

this sounds like something that will lead to a lot harassment of innocent americans...i don't like the way this proposed bill even sounds..we "all look the same" to these jackazzes...

boy, these y.t. motherf-ckers will never get it.....
focker

Here's a link to a website that is critical of the legislation:

"The REAL ID Act. This law will raise the burden of proof for asylum seekers; includes draconian provisions that would severely limit judicial review of detention and removal orders; and will prevent states from issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants and to legal immigrants who cannot provide acceptable documentation. The firm is reviewing the implications of the judicial review provisions, as there is some suggestion that judicial review of denied employment-based cases -- such as H-1B and L-1 petitions -- could also be curtailed. Of more immediate concern to most foreign nationals are the driver's license provisions. States will be required to adhere to certain minimum issuance requirements in order for their residents to be able to use their driver's licenses or state-issued non-driver identification cards as identification for federal purposes (such as boarding an airplane or entering a federal government building), including the types of identification and immigration documents states could accept and new requirements to capture biometric data from applicants. Driver's licenses issued to people who are not U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents would be temporary documents, and their expiration would be tied to the person's authorized period of stay. States that continue to issue driver's licenses and non-driver identification cards that do not adhere to these requirements would be required to mark them with some identifiable color or design to indicate that they may not be accepted by any federal agency for identification purposes."

So it applies to some degree to (can't have expired INS paperwork) legal immigrants (Green Card, H1B) and definitely to illegal immigrants but not US citizens.

"people who are not U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents would be temporary documents, and their expiration would be tied to the person's authorized period of stay. "

So basically if ones INS paperwork is delayed this becomes a problem for a legal immigrant. (And is a problem period for someone not here legally) The INS is so royally scr*wed up I wonder how they will be able to pass data back and forth to the states.
