are there any organizations/websites run by or for asian-americans which seek to provide career advice/help for asian-american professionals out there??

and not one where asian-americans pretend they're helping "their own", but then turn around and defame other asian-americans behind their backs because they wanna be the "model" minority???

thanks...

yeah, I DIDN'T THINK SO

unbelievable...on the one hand, you've got these white motherfuchers who don't wanna help you too much for fear that they might be helping the "enemy," whoever that is...then, you've got blacks and hispanics, who think that the u.s. government has secretly been giving "us" money to buy up corner stores in "their" neighborhoods in a long-term plan to exterminate them......

and last but not least, you've got these g-ddam hypercompetitive fellow asian-amerians and "fob" asians, who are certain that there will never be room for all asian-americans at the "top" and therefore are gonna make sure that "they get theirs," even if that means they have to kick their "people" in the face to ensure that their "territory" is safe..

what a great country, huh?

Azman,

I am not from the US but what sort of career advice are you after? What's your profession and what is your level of experience? I am engineer in the oil & gas industry. If you are in the same profession or industry I would be more than happy to offer you some advice.

thanks, but no thanks...not becuz ur a foreigner...

i'm just not interested....

i think i posted this more to make a point, rather than becuz i actually wanted to solicit some advice from whoever........

i've met so many of these asian/asian-american clowns who claim to want to help asian-americans, and then turn around and badmouth them behind their backs....i don't say this from my own personal experiences, but more from observation and anedotal stuff..

i think i've been relatively lucky..or maybe it's becuz i have tended to stay away from fellow asians re: my career stuff, knowing that they are just out for themselves...

whenever i am introduced to some asian-american "somebody," i almost always assume that they've got something up their sleeve and their primary goal is to protect their "turf"...so, i usually approach these "meetings" (which i keep to a bare minimum, and i don't seek them myself, and try to end it as quickly as possible) knowing that my time is probably being wasted........yes, nobody "owes" me anything, i understand that....

but, i don't know...i always thought that becuz all asian-americans share a common experience by being minorities in this country, they'd feel some sense of connection to each other beyond something superficial..but, i guess i was wrong....most people are out for themselves.........

it is difficult enuff to have to deal w/ racist non-asians, but then to also be "battling" with your "own people" just adds to the burden.......

Well Asians contain a diverse array of ethinicities. Umm........I agree with your assessment though. Asian-Americans are hyper competetive.

I look for personality first to see if they are loyal, hardworking and intelligent, if they are then they get helped, if not then ph34r.gif

Also I don't view all Asian Americans as "my people", heck, I don't even know who are my people. sad.gif

What friggin' irritates me is that fact that there is such disdain for (from other Asians) Asians who aren't in the "money-making" fields such as accounting, mathematics, physics, or sciences or law. Jeeze, does everybody think of an Asian as a lawyer, accountant, teacher or scientist? I can't do math outside of basic math to save my friggin' life. Nor do I know physics other than the fact that if you throw a F*ng golf ball straight up in the air, you'd better get the f*ng hell out of the way or you're going to knock yourself out. Science class sucked, I nearly blew up the lab (ooops) and Law just straight up ****** me off. I hate debating...and would rather just straight bean the guy and say "HEY...you wanna debate me now???" Maybe it's just my own perception clouding my judgement but well...

There is absolutely no respect (as far as I can see) for Asians in the artistic fields unless it's music (Yo-Yo Ma on the cello, Jon Kimura Parker on the piano (I studied piano with his uncle (Edward J. Parker)). I enjoy the visual arts such as photography. How many Asian photographers are there that are internationally known. I know one guy (in aviation photography) Katsuhiko Tokunaga, and that's it as far as I know. I think Asians should have a bigger profile in the visual arts (other than in the movies). I know my parents regard me as a failure for not making it in some "big money-making" profession. But I have different views than them. I prefer to do something I love rather than live as a mind-numbed, numb-@$$ed cubicle rat somewhere counting the minutes till the 5:00 release time from the daily grind.
