Being an AA allows me to hear some interesting comments throughout my life.
I use to get upset and disappointed, now I just laugh.

So, what's the dumbest/funniest comment you ever heard?

Oh mister, i have heard the most incredible ignorant comments:
You Koreans eat cats?
Do korean women like oral sex?
Why I almost don't see korean women pregnant?
do you always eat your food with chopsticks?
do all koreans use Tae kwon do when they fight in the street?
Are korean chinese?
what's the most common korean sex position?
I could write a book about the most stupid questions asians get asked by non-asians.

I wouldn't be surprised if they think we're extraterrestrials!

I think it was during the nomination of Harriet Myers for the Supreme court when I think she said GW Bush was one of the smartest men she ever knew. Something like that.

Also Condi Rice has made alot of dumb comments to cover her tracks. She also once refered to Bush as "my husband".

Pretty dumb, not Asian related but dumb.

Oh, my goodness, I started laughing so hard when I read this. Some dumb comments I've encountered:

"Do you know Jackie Chan?"
"Can Asians see?"
"Is it true Koreans eat dog?"

Oh, and one more I forgot about:

"All Asians share food."

...WTF?

A Chinese guy from California asked me "Where do you come from?"

My reply: I come from New Zealand with Samoan heritage.

Chinese male: "I thought New Zealand had only white people?"

My reply: "Please read up more about NZ."

^ You're quite right about the simple ignorance (not the overtly bigoted-to-racist kind) of that ill question! You think that someone like him would at least understand that New Zeland itself has a history rich with Pacific-Islander culture, if not Samoan then the more recognizable Maori.

Im a Samoan working in Education in Japan and i have Japanese people asking, if New Zealand is Australia ?

Well - not exactly a racist-tinged remark, but just about the dumbest thing I ever heard was from a co-worker who was in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He said that in Australia, the women outnumbered the men by a ratio of 5:1. I immediately called bull[expletive] on him, that the very preposterousness of that claim was like saying the moon is made of mayonnaise and salsa.

However, he was quickly backed up by another of my co-workers who said something even stupider, like "Yeah - when there's no war, nature knows that not that many men are needed, so more women and less men are born!"

I swear I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. But these guys were serious! The ex-Navy guy seriously thought (based on his port visits to Australia during his Navy career) that Australia was dominated by sex-starved women. Well - needless to say this guy's analytical and critical thinking skills were sadly lacking. I looked up some Internet pages and quickly debunked their stupid myths, for which they were eternally grateful, seeing the angry scowls and muttered curses they directed at me!
