Hi Gillette,
Never mind the "Blacks hate Asians" remark, I never personally believed that. What's true is that there are more tensions between African and Asian Americans because of Caucasian rules and policies which generally pitch minorities against one another. But this is not a rant at the White power either!
Here in London, UK there are also tensions between Blacks and Asians - but in the British definition, Asians is a group comprised of people coming from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka only and Chinese, Japanese, Filippinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc. are ususally referred to as Other or Chinese in racial surveys - but I think it's something that the media usually blow out of proportions.
Anyway my main point here is that as Asians, Africans or any other ethnic minority we should support each other.
As for Smoke Panther's comments as far as I know:
1) "Although Tarantino had nothing to do with the creation of either *Chungking Express* or *Hero*, it is only his name (as in "Quentin Tarantino Presents") that has helped ease such films into mainstream America's cinematic consciousness" quoted from
http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cf...=21&ItemID=80792) Although it seems DC Comics are doing more to introduce ethnic minority superheroes into comics - see this article from the New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/28/arts/28g...=rssnyt&emc=rss - let's not forget that Greg Pak has been working for Marvel Comics as well and he's done a pretty good job on the short-lived Warlock series and X-Men: Phoenix. Check out his website
http://www.pakbuzz.com/phoenix/3) What about putting the Mandarin into the Iron Man movie? I see it could be an opportunity for an Asian actor to get a job. Didn't Rick Yune play bad guys in The Fast & The Furious (Johnny Tran) and Die Another Day (Zao)? He didn't do a bad job and I thought he came across as pretty cool. I admit I could be wrong on this because I haven't seen him in any other movie since that (stupid) James Bond movie back in 2002. Any news about what he's up to would be very welcome. I think the guy's really cool.
That's it. I hope this will be an interesting piece of reading for you guys out there. Check out this great site which focuses on news about Asian Americans and ethnic minorities:
http://www.angryasianman.com. It's truly a tremendous source of information. And on a daily basis that is!
Take care,
Eddie
