Kahi Lee: L.A. Renaissance Chick

GS: Maybe you're more interested in becoming a TV personality like Oprah?
KL: I would love to be that successful! But I don't know that I necessarily want to be in front of the camera my whole career. For me the important thing is to be involved with creating and producing TV shows. It's so fast-paced and creative. I think it's just a lot of fun to create something.

GS: Give us a picture of a typical day.
KL: Every day is totally different. I don't have any typical days. Today I woke up at eight to go downtown and go over a bunch of invoices on a job I'm working on. I don't usually wake up at eight, but we have people remodeling our house and they get started early.

GS: Since you seem to be doing work that you consider fun, what do you do for fun to relax?
KL: Sleep. Sit around the house. I haven't had much time for anything outside of work. When we do have some time — and assuming I have the energy — we might go out to eat, see a show.

GS: Why do you kill yourself by working so hard at so many things?
KL: I'm afraid that it might all just stop one day. I want to do as much as I can while the opportunities are available.

GS: Where would you take a friend who's in town for just one day?
KL: I love having friends come to visit. It's my chance to do really cliche touristy LA stuff like tour the homes of the stars, check out the wax museum and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I'd also take them on the “US Weekly Tour”. That means doing all the things you read about in US Weekly — shopping at Kitson, lunch at the Ivy, dinner at Koi, drinks at the Roosevelt, clubbing at Mood or LAX. Just a lot of frivolous fun LA style.

GS: What's your ultimate fantasy?
KL: Having a big house on the beach with three cats, two dogs and lots and lots of fat, healthy babies.

GS: What's your worst nightmare?
KL: Being bored.

GS: What's the best thing about your career so far?
KL: Being my own boss.

GS: What's the worst thing about your career so far?
KL: Being on the road taping Renovate My Family was rough. We bounced around all over the country for about 6 months. We endured hurricanes, tornados, extreme heat, freezing cold and some rather "interesting" motels. I missed my friends and family terribly. I had chronic homesickness. But as hard as it was, it was worth it in the end. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

GS: Who the heck is Jason?
KL: Jason is my amazingly talented, loving and supportive husband. He's an acclaimed music supervisor for film and television. He is also an on-air radio DJ on two radio stations in Los Angeles and he also produces and promotes music events/concerts/clubs. He's a job juggler like me.
