Hey Maxdacat
I don't know much about the asian/oriental thing since i was born and raised in Toronto, but living in a city with probrably over a million asians, the most diverse city in the world, i can honestly say that oriental is not a bad term to us and it's not a big deal to us. I have never used the term asian before except on filling out government documents and living in the states these past few years. Asian is too broad...oriental defines the group of japanese, korean, chinese and vietnamese better.
Toronto has 5 chinatowns and asians walking everywhere you go. I have only encountered people there using the word oriental and that was by oriental people mostly. Oriental is not a bad word. I think it's a beautiful word cause when i think of the word oriental, anything oriental including the people come to mind.

"I think it's aweful that a chinese woman would marry a white man so her children will have western eyes. Children should be born out of love, not facial features."
Many Asian men seek white women for those same reasons/issues. I've seen many very attractive Asian men with average looking (sometimes unattractive) white women. And I've even known Asian guys who spend all their money to keep their blond girlfriends happy. It's sad.
I agree race shouldn't be the controlling reason to date someone.
But then again some of the most open-minded, progressive and supportive men I have known in my life have been white men. The one's I've known are far more open to understanding an Asian woman's burden better than any Asian man I've ever known. I would rather go out with an open-minded white man than a narrow-minded Asian man anyday. And coming into this forum and seeing how hateful so many Asian men react to Asian woman only reinforces my distance. So white women can have Asian men. I'll go for an open-minded white guy. (And i'm sure some bitter person who feels betrayed will now post something contradictory next to my entry to make me look foolish.)
