Flamenco Vixen,

If what you say is true, that Enrique Iglesias is part Filipino, he would most certainly not be 1/2. At most he would be one quarte Filipino. His father is 100% Spanish and you said his mother is from a Filipino-Spanish family, that means that she is half-Filipino and half-Spanish. Therefore Enrique would be only quarter Filipino. But considering that the mestizos-mestizos are only 2% of the Filipino population (and out of this 2% most of the mestizos are Filipino-Chinese mestizos, and the rest are Filipino-Spanish mestizos who are mostly more Spanish than Filipino), and the rest are Malay and some small pockets are Negritos, that would mean the his mother is more Spanish, making him even less Filipino. You have to realize Filipinos have always been taught to aspire to be Mestizos, and hence almost all Filipinos claim to be mestizos, when in fact they are not, they are Malay. In a previous post I said how sickening it is to see that 80% of television stars in the Philippines are mestizos, and 15% are Latinos or whites who appear in imported television series from the US or Latin America. Why should we aspire to be whiter? I will never deny who I am.
I am a Malay-Filipino not a Filipino-Spanish mestizo, who like the vast majority of the Malay-Filipinos (who constitute 97% of the Philippines), has a Spanish surname because it was imposed on us during the colonial era. Unlike Latinos who are 90% White or White-Indian, we resisted mixing with the Spanish invaders, and our population has been proudly kept pure Malay 97% , we were not contaminated by the invaders, and we resisted the oppressors' Spanish language and chose Tagalog, and other native Filipino languages over it.

I am a filipino man, 27yo, and I wanted to know what other Asians consider “Ideal Beauty“. Last year Miss America was of Filipino descent and I watched the show where she was crowned as the first Asian women to be Miss America. I followed a link to the Miss Philippines website and there they had a statement about Asian beauty. They had two pictures of past Miss Philippines and the first was from 1970’s with a full-blooded Filipina, underneath her was a footnote saying “the Filipino Beauty of past years”. Then there was a picture of Miss Philippines 1990’s who was a mestiza and underneath this picture was a footnote saying “the Beauty of the present”. Then they had a computer-generated picture of a woman who was obviously and unmistakably had 95% Caucasian looking features light skin, no Asian eyes, the longest an narrowest nose with a very high bridge and 5% Filipino features, and under that picture was a footnote saying “The Filipino beauty of the future”.
This was nauseating to read and see. How can Asians themselves think the “whiter” we become the prettier we look. It is disgusting to see Asians brainwashing other Asians to think in this fuc*ed-up way.
To all Filipinos I ask you, when you watch Filipino television how many non-mestizo-looking “artistas” do you see on television? Answer: None. 80% of all television stars in the Philippines are Filipino-mestizos. 15% are Mexican soap-stars from imported Mexican telenovelas or caucasians from US series, and the rest are pure Filipinos who are the rejects and are there to fool the public. Why do we welcome these Mexican soapie-stars to our country and our Government Palaces with red carpet, army salutes, government sponsored dinners in their honour, with the presence of the President to welcome them into the country. Such things are commonplace when actresses and actors like Eduardo Capetillo, Thalia, etc, etc arrive to see visit the Philippines and their “devote, faithful and loyal Filipino fans“. Another thing that gives me stomach cramps is that almost all Filipinos in America “claim” to be Filipino-mestizos, when they are not. Mestizos in the Philippines today constitute between 1.8% and 2% or less of the population, and this percentage accounts for both half-Spanish and half-Chinese type mestizos. Its just that most some Filipinos have Spanish surnames because they were imposed on us during the colonial era. At most 2% of the Philippines is mestizo, and yet they constitute over 80% of television stars.
Why don’t we wake up and see the way we just keep quiet and are told to think we look ugly because we are Malay and not Filipino-mestizos, or Latinos or whites. Why should we aspire to look whiter? What sickens me most is to see our Filipina women marrying white men in the thousands and travelling to marry Caucasians as postal-brides to have mestizo children, they think to better the Filipino race. You people are a disgrace to our race.

Greetings,

We just have to say that living in the San Gabriel Valley, which is a mixture of Asians and Latinos, has been a blessing. We are a mixed couple. I am Wang Li from China and I am Max, a Mexican American. Life is good and our advice to everyone is as long as you truly love each other let nothing stand in your way!

Within the boudaries of GOLDSEA stats I have noticed that out of all the interacial relationships between Asian Females and Other Ethnics, Asians females are attracted to Latinos the most due to their 'Their education & cultural values | 17%.'

This is in an interesting stat for being a Latino myself I know that we are not the most educated group in the US territory...mmm... so I assume that this refers more to the cultural values than anything else. Having concluded by logic alone is it fair to assume that this is one of the main reasons why Asian Females and Latino Males relationships are very unusual? Does having two strong cultural backgrounds get in the way of a relationship? I hope to hear your comments

Just some trivia, did you know that Enrique Iglesias is half Filipino?

Yes! I don't know if Latinos in the US are aware of this fact. His mom is Isabel Preysler who is a well-known socialite in Madrid and who was Julio's first wife. She comes from a well-to-do Filipino-Spanish family in the Philippines.

One time, I even saw Enrique on MTV (I think he was on "The Grind") and he was wearing a white shirt that said "Philippines."

Also, I used to think that Lou Diamond Phillips (the actor) was Latino but in fact, his mom is from the Philippines too (he came to Manila some time this year or last year to promote a film).

Good Call Flamenco Vixen,

I agree with you one 100% and even though I'm a Latino I preferred to view issues as a third or neutral party. As to your observations I guess many people may not agree with you, but that maybe due to the group culture these people are engaged in. It is good to read stats and academics, but it is also good to hear what others have to say for perceptions are relevant to our individual experiences. I'd rather not sound patronizing, but I cannot help to say your comments have been very positive and intelligent (and this is what this section lacks).

As to your weather problem I do sympathize with you...have you ever heard of the rain in Vancouver, BC.

Taked Care and Peace
