WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
Personally, I don't think anyone can really give a definitive answer on which Latin nationality is the best looking since it is all so subjective.
If you've had opportunities to travel around a lot and interact with different nationalities, you'd see that each nationality has its share of attractive and not-so-attractive people. But then again, it all boils down to personal preference.
If you look at some of the other message boards in this web site, you'll find a lot of back and forth about which Asian group is better looking/smarter/etc. This is all kind of silly to me since all it has done is create hostilities and further reinforced stereotypes.

Concerned Filipino,
A point of clarification: when I said that Enrique Iglesias is half-Filipino, I did not mean for it to be taken literally. His mom is from the Philippines and that's why I said that he's half Filipino. And when I said that his mom is Filipino-Spanish, I did not mean that one of her parents was Filipino and other parent was Spanish. I meant to say that she had both Filipino and Spanish blood but I don't know the proportion. I just know that she has some Filipino blood in her (that is Malay blood)which I read about in an article.
A lot of it depends on how you are defining Filipino. Are you saying that only people of pure Malay blood can be called "Filipinos"?
Having said that, I do agree with you that Filipinos generally aspire to be mestizos/mestizas and that this is the beauty ideal. If you read any of my prior posts you would have discovered that although I am not a Filipina, I did grow up in the Philippines. So I do have an understanding of this colonial mentality that you talk about.
About the trend towards the appreciation of the morena look - I think it's just that - a trend. The fact is (and I am not supporting this phenomenon one bit), the mestiza ideal is strongly entrenched in the Philippines. WHile the movie stars, beauty queens, and models might be tanning their skin, they are just a minority. The masa still believe that paler skin is better.

Enrique Iglesias’ mother, Isabel Preysler Arrastria, was born a wealthy child in Manila on February 18, 1951. She has a lineage saturated with Spanish blood from four generations ago, but is still a insignificantly small part-native Filipino.
Her mother’s two grandmothers were bi-racial who married pure Spanish gentlemen by the surnames of Arrastria, and, Reinares. All her father’s grandparents were pure Spanish. Out of 16 parts (because there are 8 great-grandparents in total, and each is made up of ss-ss,ss-ss--ss-sf,ss-sf), she is 14 parts Spanish and only 2 parts native Filipina. In all essence, and as a matter or principal, she is basically Spanish. She can’t even be considered Filipina anymore.
That’s why she and her family left the Philippines and went back to Spain, because they weren‘t Filipinos.
Hence, Enrique Iglesias, out of 32 (because he is another generation down), would be 30 parts Spanish and 2 parts Filipino, or in a ratio, 30:2.

Hello,
I am a mexican american male who has always prefered asian women! By asian I specifically mean oriental women! They have such flawless breathtaking beauty it can be intimidating. Fortunetly I was able to overcome that and at age 29 I recently became engaged to the korean girl of my dreams!
Sincerely, James from Ohio

To concerned philipino:
I feel ya, man. When I see Mexican soap operas all I see are a bunch of white mexican actors or mestizos trying to look white. It sucks because 70% of the Mexican population is mestizo and about 26% are mexican indian. Who are they trying to please? Only that 3% who are white? This is one of the reasons why I see a lot of dark-skinned latinas dyeing their hair blond and wearing blue contacts. It is very disturbing to see that. Somebody should see a picture of Sean"P.Diddy"combs mother to see how far some people are trying to look their whitest. Very sick shit, man.

With regards to your questions, Mexican-American guys are the best in terms of Latinos! Lol. That of course is my unbiased opinion based purely on factual and scientific evidence. Well, I mean what did expect me to say?
At any rate were ok.

To Concerned Filipino,
I hear you loud and clear my brother. We must end this foolish distorted image of beauty. Asian women rock, especially the dark ones...

Hey "Concerned Filipino" I think Filipinos are gradually waking up from their "colonial mentality" just like ME!
Many of us are now realizing and appreciating our Malay attributes and
attractiveness. In fact, there is now a
trend in our country that "morena" or tanned skin is becoming desirable. Look
at many of the Filipina celebrities nowadays they are darkening or tanning
their skin! If you ever noticed there are more and more morena/malay beauty sprouting in Philippine entertainment scene! Also have you noticed that these
years most of our Bb. Pilipinas (Ms. Philippines) are looking like authentic
Filipina - truly Malay. I guess what's
behind this trend is the fact that the
world's perception of what is attractive
is broadening and now encompassing all
races no longer restricted to caucasoid
features. It is because there is really
no standard of beauty, its all cultural
thing. You know what's ironic there are a lot of "truly" attractive Malays that
westerns think are the best Filipina beauty but we Filipinos think the
"mestizas" are the "ultimate goddess".
But just what I have said we are gradually coming to our senses. Yeah,
now I appreciate more the Malay looks more so than the light-skinned mestiza.
Both of them have their unique and special beauty but for me the Malays are
the "sweetest flowers of the Philippines"! ;)
