WHAT YOU SAY

Concerned Filipinos:
The richest "westerner" that a Filipina ever married was black. His name was Reginald Lewis, and he passed away at the age of 50 of brain tumour back in 1992. He was a billionaire and his wife, the Philippines born Loida Lewis, now runs his business, TLC Beatrice. The marriage produced two daughters, one of whom is at Harvard at present.
I also know of other Filipinas who are either married to black Americans or are dating one. Actually, the Change of Heart show featured one Nicole Domaloan from Hawaii with a black man, and they eventually got married. However, I do agree with you that the majority prefer white men.

I like much better the guy named "Pablo" in Monica Brava rather than Facundo. Pablo is more suited to be the leading man than Facundo. No offense but most of my friends agree with me and they don't see any appeal in the looks of Facundo!

Concerend Filipinos,
I don't really think that Bridal services point enhances your argument. It is unfortunate that many people have to do this to get out of poverty. I agree. Sometimes they end up in bad relationships, but then that is part of the risk they are willing to take. The concept of LOVE you want them to have is certainly a recent WESTERN phenomenon and the bridal concept, is more or less a modern form of arranged marriages, which still occur in many countries.
I sympathize with your phobic views in regards to the exodus of Asian women to other men (especially White). This phenomenon is quite visible and disturbing for some (not me), but if you want to make a point you need to have stronger arguments.
Good Luck

No problem, I hope you would have the opportunity to visit Argentina. Its not a cheap country to visit despite its economic problems and illegal immigration problems from Boliva and Paraguay. Matter of fact, they use US dollars. But I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Concerned Filipino,
First, I'd like to point out the obvious - we are not in the shoes of these Filipina women who seek to be mail-order brides. Ultimately, we don't know their individual reasons for choosing to find a husband this way. Perhaps, one of the reasons is to escape poverty (Personally, I think this is a big factor), perhaps another reason is to marry "white" (I am not denying that this is A reason but I am saying that I don't think it's the MAIN reason like you say it is). I just don't think it's fair how you seem to blame these women for making what is ultimately THEIR CHOICE. If you are so upset, why not attack the mail order bride agencies themselves who promote stereotypes about Filipina/Asian women as being submissive and willing to please (many of these agencies are owned/co-owned by Filipinos themselves)? Why not attack the Filipino govt. for not being able to provide for the its people so that they have to go overseas in droves to be maids, dancers, TNTs (all who seek to have a better life and to provide for their families)?
If you are so upset by Filipinos' glorification of the European/nordic looks, then why are you singling out only Filipinas? Why are you not giving equal scrutiny to Filipino men?
Would you be less upset if there were more Filipinas marrying Africans, Indians, other Asians? Would that make you feel better?
I am not denying that colonial mentality does not run strong in the Philippines. I am just saying that you have to look at the totality of circumstances.

Hi, just looking around here. Interesting dialogue. I haven't been around many Latin men but they seem interesting and fun to me. I would date a Latino person if they were well mannered so don't think all asian women have bad ideas about you. I'll be honest with you a lot of times I can't tell the difference between whites and hispanics here. I may have dated a Latino and not even known about it. It really doesn't matter I guess as long as you are a good person. =)
