I agree that the only reason Alicia Keys won all those grammys was because she's half white. I was so pissed off because I've been passed over all my life by light skinned black women who thought their sh*t didn't stink! I was really hoping India Arie would win the grammys that she was nominated for and when she didn't I knew the reason why.
India Arie has a better body than Alicia Keys and she sings much better and she's a better musician too and performer!
When Alicia Keys performs all she does is sit behind her piano on her fat *ss. She should have been a concert pianist instead of trying to be an r&b star but Alicia Keys knew that in the classical field, she would have been seen as only another n*gger but, in the r&b field with her being half white she would be seen as beautiful.
I don't think she's that pretty. I see more women on the street who look prettier than Alicia Keys.
I also never liked how she showed up with braids in her hair trying to make herself look more down with black people. I've never seen Alicia Keys call herself black in an interview she calls herself biracial. So, if she's so proud of being biracial then why are she wearing braids all the time!
The grammys proved that they have a panel of white supremicist judges who hated India's song because it boosts dark skinned black women like myself self esteem and that's why she was robbed!

Oh, I am so sorry to read about your lost love. It's so heartbreaking to fall in love someone who cannot reciprocate, even if he wanted to, which it sound like this guy did. It's too bad for YOU that your guy didn't have the resources to stand up to the father figure, but I suspect that it's even worse for HIM. At least you got away from these dangerous people -- he's stuck with them. And if they hurt you, imagine what they might have done to your kids!
I hope you've taken this experince and learned something though. Something about your own boundaries, what you will accept and will not accept in a relationship, what you need and what you are prepared to do if you don't get your needs met. Maybe out of the compost of this dead romance, you will be able to grow a beautiful and healthy relationship with someone who's actually available to you and ready to reciprocate.
So take care of yourself, and remember that you are a Queen, girl!

BLACKSAMBO, AsioPhile and PJ,
Yeah, I'm still pretty devastated for India.Arie. I mean, really -- she sings the songs that sound like they came from my own heart (well, except for MY personal version of Brown Skin, which is Brown and Gold Skin... ;) ), and she looks like she could be a cousin of mine. I think her album was way more cohesive and better put together than Alicia Keyes, and this is coming from someone who played that Alicia Keyes CD every day for a month.
So after I watched my girl India in despair after U2 won (not your imagination at all, AsioPhile 81), I called up one of my more savvy industry friends. I was convinced that India lost out not because of the skin-tone issue, but because she doesn't really play the game, glamour-wise. It seems like all female artists have to be so made up and glamorous to get any positive attention. I guess it makes them more attractive for product endorsements and such. Of course, notable exceptions include my girls Tracy Chapman and Michele NDegocello (or however she's spelling it this week), but once again you'll probably never see either one of them doing a Revlon commercial.
So my friend, who is a black man, said that India probably lost out at the Grammy's because her music just didn't get the airplay that Alicia's did. That's the bottom line -- can't vote for it if you don't hear it. Besides, her work is counter to all of that MTV Grammy BS anyway -- her songs are about keeping it real. So while it shouldn't have really mattered if she won or not because she is "A Queen" as her song says, it still hurt to watch someone's dream just die on live television.
Of course my sister says that this is just a test. If India.Arie takes this to heart (which really wouldn't make sense since she did get more nominations than anyone else this year) then maybe she wasn't really cut out for the business after all. But if she brushes off this slight and gets back in there and keeps churning out good music, she'll eventually get recognition.
All I know is, India's CD has been welded into my disk changer from the day I got it! I don't know what I did with the Alicia Keys.
