The caste system might not be legal anymore but is it still widely practiced in India? And among Indian immigrant population in America, do marriges between higher caste and the untouchables occur? Or is this gernerally unacceptable?
Thanks

TO Really really mean what I said:

I agree with some of what you posted. Being a colored person at University, they are extremely arrogant and rude.

I have also read Dinesh D'Souza and he makes my skin crawl. What a disgusting book.

Sadly, the East Indians that I have met, pretty much mirror his conceit and prejudice.

To asia ruls and yup...ed cut off my post!!! (WHY????) i was going to say you are the few asian that can be TRULY called asians, because you recognize asia as a whole, and not the western percieved notion of asian.

And to I really really meant what i said
you are entitled to your opinion, though i feel sorry for such low intellect like yourself. Your post was filled with stereotypes! Those few indian doctors you met, can NOT and do NOt represent the entire population of indians!! (there are a LOT of us!) There is bad and good in all races, no race is immune from having anti-social, inconsiderate, arrogant, racist, abusive people, just like no race is immune from having intelligent, beautiful, kind, generous people! Race hs absolutely NOTHING to do with how one behaves! It's the environment and upbringing, that mold a person into who they are and how they act. So you can go on stereotyping to no end, but just know that no one in their right mind would actually agree with that thing you call a post...
NdNgirl..so many idiots!    Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at 15:47:45 (PDT)    [64.12.96.46]

learning each day,

And what do you expect to accomplish by discussing the Untouchables? What is your reson for wanting to probe such an issue? I think it is inapropriate and personal to ask such questions. It seems as though you are set on picking apart the indian culture, and searching for as many faults as you can. And you wonder why people dislike American ways? I don't know who you are, or even if you consider yourself and American citizen. I just want for you to know that you are a poor example of your people, whoever they may be. If you would like to pick apart a culture, try doing that with your own. I am sure you will find many flaws indeed.

Well heres your lesson for today. Indian people no longer enforce the caste system, at least not strongly. In the olden days, yes you couldnt move from one caste to another, but nowadays this is unheard of. The Sikhs are a religious minority in the north Indian state of Punjab. Their teachings are slightly different than those of hinduism.

Exit stage...who cares???
i think it's right out stupid of you to think that because of a caste system that barely even exists to this day, east indian men are unappealing...and you find chinese, korean..etc. cultures more appealing, well a lot of their cultures...(the ones YOU mentioned), not all but many, are based on buddhist teachings, and i think that this simple fact may shock you, because Buddha was an EAST INDIAN MAN, so i just thought i should let you know that you contradicted yourself...TERRIBLY!

To Asia Rules..Yup..
You are the few asian people who can be truly called

Rajesh,Batchu,Ndngirl,

You all can try to cover it up all you want. The truth of the matter is, I have gone to college with many East Indian medical doctors and nurses. And before I went into private practice, I had to work with them also. They are so extremely rude and arrogant. They have a superior, nasty attitude toward non-indians. It is especially so with the ones with very dark dark olive skin, they are the most arrogant. I have seen this with my very own eyes face to face, day to day. Do not tell ME that this is just some sort of hallucination that I am experiencing. I do not take drugs or drink(never have never will) and my mind is healthy and quite clear. So I know what I see, and am fully aware of whats going on. Indian men are cocky, conceited, prejudiced and severely arrogant. They think they are above everything in this world. They classify everyone else as being low forms of life. As I have said before. I have never been attracted to them, and this is why. I do not like the horrible attitudes and the way they view other human beings. Rajesh said that they are not barbarians. Maybe so. But the treatment I have seen is very barbaric. I have even noticed many patients used to ask for another doctor when only the East Indian ones were available. They did not want to deal with their nasty attitude. I have heard it from their mouths.
