WHAT YOU SAY

TAG:

You sound a lot like me in college. Now I have to dress for the professional world. Oye. But we do have Jeans Friday (woohoo!)

I buy stuff based on whether or not I like something (also being on sale is a plus.) Usually when I look for stuff, I tend to be very oicky towards my purses and my shoes. And not just any shoes. My tennis shoes.

I probably try on shoes in ten or more different stores before I find on ethat is okay. Another example would have to be my purse buying. I bought a $9 dollar purse from Target that lasted me two years before I grew out of it. Now I have a name brand that cost exactly ten times that much. Yes, it's PRADA.
The thing is, my buying policy has more to do with my liking something. Some of these $500 dollar things that people are carrying around are just UGLY!!!

hahahaha...nice post. You seem really fun and interesting, not to mention down-to earth. But really, what's with this? Not everyone needs to wear this kind of stuff to be stylish.

Indians:
don't you get it ? Its your turn !!!
Soon they will tire of bashing Indians and it will be the Filipinos who have to hear all about how they are not "Asian" enough. So consider the source and don't get you underwear in a knot. You are every bit as beautiful and worthwhile as human beings as anyone else. In some cases you are better than your detractors!!!
neither Indian or Filipin    Monday, October 07, 2002 at 14:04:57 (PDT)    [153.104.214.108]
I think for the most part, people such as Decon and other make crude remark about indian culture because they simply do not have accurate knowledge. Instead of making bold allegations, why not research the entire history to get a well rounded view. Instead of seeking only the negative gossip. American culture has alot of skeletons in its closets along with other asian culture. So noone can simply place the blame on our culture that we are some sort of murderous lunatics. There are many beautiful things about our culture. I disagree that we are the least popular culture of all asian. I disagree with that.

rare stuff,

I believe Decon might as well be the kkk. He is just as foolish and irrational.

Marisa in NY,

I agree with you, I wear moderately-priced clothing from Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, but splurge on accessories. A simple piece of jewelry of high quality adds a touch of class to any outfit. My favorites are Louis Vuitton bags, Gucci or Chanel sunglasses, my Movado watch and simple gold jewelry.

Oh but TAG, according to Asia Ms.net, "Manolo Blahniks ($550 shoes) are a must"! If that site doesn't perpetuate the materialistic asian girl image I don't know what does.
$550 shoes? that's my rent for the month!    Monday, August 12, 2002 at 13:13:30 (PDT)

Hmmmm...lets see now

Killer footwear: tennis shoes or sandals
Dazzling eyewear: glasses
Knockout bag: don't carry one
Stunning watch: bought it at Wal Mart
Breathtaking necklace: nope
Cute cellphone/pager: nada
Exquisite earring: don't even have my ears pierced.

And yes, I am an AF, shocking, isn't it

Rely on my trusty Birkin bag; it's practical and will last a lifetime.

Otherwise, I dress in Banana Republic and the Gap - prefer to splurge on accessories!

I like the many multi-stranded little bead necklaces made of real stone like jade or turquoise or red austrian crystal. I don't like amber -- I don't think it is flattering on just about any skin colouring.

if you like slide necklaces, I think they are absolutely fine! I think jewelry is highly personal, and whether something is "in" or "out" is irrelevant. On the other hand, if it's actually a fashion statement, I don't know if it's in or not ...

Question ladies: Are slide necklaces still in? I guess I'm about 5 years behind the trend here but I suddenly want one. Comments?

trying too hard:

I agree with you:)
I totally do not understand why people would spend so much on designer things. Unless you attend formal parties on a regular basis...I do not see the neccesity.

I mean...expensive/designer things do not exactly improve the appearance of an individual. I mean... I see skanky girls buying expensive clothes with BIG BIG logos all the time and it is like...ummmm. There are also good looking people who do not have to compensate their appearance with brand names....they know they look good.

I feel that...as long as you are clean looking...you look FINE. If a dirty girl wears designer things...it just makes them look like a joke.

So...just look clean and save a couple bucks man!!!!!

I think with AFs that brands are much more about conformity than actually liking the bag/shoe whatever. If all of your friends have the black Prada nylon bag at $550 then you must get it too. (If Prada bags weren't the "in" bag would you really want to spend $550 on a freaking nylon bag with a small metal triangle on it? Hell no!) Then your friends get an LV bag at $600 and then you must get that one too. It's part of the whole asian notion of "face". Like throwing a huge wedding banquet and bankrupting yourself in the process, just to look rich to everyone else.
