Even Keanu Reeves does not see himself as Asian.

Keanu described himself as "a bourgeois, middle-class WHITE BOY with an absent father, a strong-willed mother, and two beautiful younger sisters."

Also, Keanu Reeve's dad was a criminal and a dead beat dad. That kinda disproves the myth that "Asian men are law-abiding make good husband, father and provider", huh?

Keanu Reeve should NOT be considered as Asian American because:

(1) He looks (mostly) Caucasian.

(2) Very few people outside Asian communities know he has Asian ancestry.

(3) Mainstream American does NOT relate him to Asian. Mainstream America does NOT see him as (partly) Asian. Mainstream America is NOT even aware that he is (partly) Asian. This brings us to the next point.

(4) Most importantly, his personal success has done absolutely NOTHING in promoting the image or acceptance of Asians in the mainstream America.

The final point, in my view, is the most important factor in determining if an actor is Asian. The career successes of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Chow Yun Fat have promote the image and acceptance of Asians in mainstream America. The success of Keanu Reeve has not (simply because mainstream America does not view or even know him as Asian.)

why does it matter if keanu is part asian or not. the reason why most people don't know his part asian because his father was never there for him and now his father in jail for cocaine possesions. and that's why keanu never talks about it or his father. Jennifer Tilly is 1/2 chinese but she doesn't really talk of it either because her chinese father was never there for her either. All in all i don't think i matters what race you are and what race you are known as.

Actually Li is the surname for Mandarin folks while Lee is the surname for Cantonese which is what Bruce Lee was. A huge difference as you will never see this mixup occurring unless it's over their dead body.

Though Bruce was an amazing actor and martial artist, he was also a drug addict and a steroid user. He was prone to violent acts, probably due to "roid rages," and once hit an interviewer just to prove a point. He attacked a HK Director with a knife, and what disturbs me the most is the fact that he was so obsessed with his name Li being written as the westernized Lee. How's that for cultural pride? As an actor, Bruce is one of the best. As a role model, it really depends on your values I guess.

To be honest, I personally thought that Keanu Reeves was Itailian or French or maybe Turkish, but never suspected him to have Asian blood in him. But I did know that mixed children from white and Asian people do tend to have more distinctive Caucasian characteristics. Some may even inherit blond hair and blue eyes or green eyes. But most have dark or brown hair.

I had an Asian female classmate whose brother's Caucausian girlfriend had a baby with green eyes. I was shocked. But then again, my college biology teacher explained.

Back to Keanu Reeves. I don't really know why that half the girls I know from any race go googoo over him.
It's the price you'll have to pay when you have superstar status I guess.

Chow Yun Fat is a great actor. I think people don't realize this because they haven't seen him act in chinese movies. He shows a lot of emotion into the roles that he plays and I haven't seen anyone show as much passion in acting as Chow Yun Fat.

i think robin shou is a chauvinist and also, chow yun fat is the best of the lot considering where he started n where he is now, still humble and i have friends who have worked with him..and they think is is the most balanced and grounded star of asia!!!not big ego like jackie or disturbed like bruce lee....!!:)

Au contraire, i think bad acting can sometimes enhance the cuteness of a gorgeous guy! But he does have to be gorgeous. I prefer Keanu in roles where he doesn't have to do much, just look nice :)
