WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
you can cheer for them, but don't get blah, blah, blah...

I don't know where you live, but here in the USA, nobody watches soccer. It is mostly BASKETBALL, baseball and football.

Ask any young Asian-American (of any ethnicity) what sport they play the most, watch the most, etc. and the answer would most likely be,.......?

Yep, you got it. Basketball!!! you know what i'm saying???

That is the sport where you see people doing the most commercials, selling the most attire, being part of our modern hip culture, etc...

You really think China would suck this bad if Wang Zhizhi was on the team now?

Hey, most of the teams they are up against also have NBA players (many of them all-stars, like Steve Nash of Canada).

You really think Korea played up to par? The games against Spain and Italy during the World Cup raised many eyebrows. But, in the end, you saw how Turkey tore them to pieces? It shows they are really no better no worse.

At least China qualified for the World Cup in soccer. Where is Korea in this basketball tournament? Where is Japan?

Don't even get me started there...

LMAO...

you can cheer them, canada does not suck, canada finished fourth at the sydney games. they are a good team.

where did they go,
taiwan has refused to play in the little league world series, because they were tired of all the allegations of cheating made by the u.s.

Koreans are getting to cocky. Who gives a damn. Do ya see any Korean boxers in America fighting with tough Black dudes and knock them out. I don't think so!

If they want more respect, they have got to fight overseas because nobody knows them here.
The Dude    Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 19:38:54 (PDT)
I didn't read any tread where C-WEB was touting Corean supremcy. But I did where he points are Corean boxing is tops in Asia just as the this board is all about "comparing Asian athletes."
Don't take this as bashing Filipinos in general.
C-WEB supporter    Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 17:16:52 (PDT)
Basketball-nobody was stating that China is among the best in basketball, just that they are among the best in Asia. Do you think Korea could have done any better against Canada or other countries???

Here we go again about Korea and how they supposedly dominate all other Asian countries. Korean soccer- their rise was fairly recent. Why do people have short memories? Not too long ago, Korean soccer was nothing to brag about- Korea would lose in the 1st or 2nd round of the World Cup to some weak teams. They did well at the 2002 World Cup. China did not do well, but it was even an achievement for them to be in the World Cup-who knows, give it a few years, they could be like Korea (no joke).

I'm just happy to see Asian rise in sports. Enough of this Korean v. Chinese or Korean v. Filipino BS (Seems like it's been Korean v. Rest of Asia on this board-quite pathetic!).

C-Web,

I'm not a Filipino but I'm disappointed of how you are such an arrogant prick towards the Filipinos. Get your acts together, and show some class.

To you can cheer for them but don't get carried away,

You're a total dumbass, first of all Canadian basketball is definately top 4 in the world. The fact that you said Canada sucked shows your ignorance in basketball, so don't post anything more on it okay?

Korean soccer is a world power. This is horses***, the fact that they won a few games don't mean nothing. The last time they played the Chinese in May 2002 the score was 0-0 . By the way there are only a handful of Koreans in European soccer. A J Huan who benched for Perugia, and Song Chung Gook who's landing in the Neterlands and my favorite Seol Ki Hyun who stars in Belgium. But I don't think there are a lot more. And there's definately ZERO korean player in the English Premier league (arguably the best soccer league in the world). But right now there are FOUR Chinese nationals in the premierships. Li Tie and Li Wei Feng in Everton. Qu BO in Tottenham . And Sun Ji Hai in Crystal Palace. So get your act together and don't post horses*** please.

SAD DUDE
Were you Michelle's Asian boyfriend that got dumped? Otherwise why are you so bitter?
If you're not her Asian bf, be kind to tell me who was her Asian bf. It's amazing how you seem to know so much about her that no one else has ever heard of. If that really happened I bet the antiKwan media would've bashed the topic to death a long time ago. So that basically leaves one thing possible; you need help cause you're seeing things that didn't happen.

c-web,

What the hell is your problem? I have no problem with you defending Korean boxing, but straight up racism and arrogance toward Filipinos is just crude. You come off as if Koreans are superior. In the end, you will just get no respect, which is a shame, because people won't take the stuff you say about Korean boxing seriously.
damn you're a bitch    Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 04:08:32 (PDT)
This board is dedicated to comparing ASIAN AMERICAN ATHLETES, not for race superiority! You all just need to shut up and stop whinning 'bout who's better. Grow up cause you guys sound like a buncha babies. No the Koreans are not superior and neither are the Chinese, Japanese, Philipinos nor the other races out there.
The more you whine the more you make us Asians look bad.
Yeah way to go for Asian Pride(or Asian Bickering) to promote the image of Asian Americans. This was why Asia got torn up by westerners way back when. Asians too busy to prove who's more superior and never want to unite cause god forbid they might be lining themselves up with the inferior of the Asian races. And the westerners take the oppurtnunity to strengthen up, unite and take over. Quit whining. Unity is the utmost important factor for strength.

What happened to the Taiwanese little league dynasty? They used to win the littel league title every year but now its the Japanese or Korean little leaguers winning most of them.
Where did they go?    Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 19:28:10 (PDT)
asian basketball is not even on the map in the world. china, which was supposed to be the best from asia lost to little canada. and canada sucks.

history check. china was 9th in the last olympics. nuff said. they are not like korean soccer, which are world powers in that sport, as shown in the recent world cup. there are many korean soccer players dominating in europeon leagues. chinese basketball players can't even beg for starting time in texas.
you can cheer for them, but don't get carried away    Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 15:26:06 (PDT)
You Koreans in this thread have no class. Zero. Look at how you guys are bashing at the proud filipino dude who is only trying to promote sportsmen of his country. You Koreans need to stop bashing and start acting civilized. No wonder your country is so divided.
Asian referee    Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 15:20:33 (PDT)
Damn, Yao Ming didn't dominate like I thought when he played Canada. I thought he would because the tallest guy on the Canadian team was 6'9, and I heard the guy guarding Ming was only 6'6 (a foot shorter than Ming), and held Ming to only 20 something points while Steve Nash had like 40. Good news is Ming went 6-6 in shooting. From this performance I think Ming won't be averaging more than 12 points a game this season, and that he'll have a lot of criticisms from the media and the fans. Hopefully, he'll improve every game.

I still plan on supporting Ming by buying his jersey and wearing the same shoes as him, gotta support Asians.

And does anyone know what's going on with Wang Zhizhi? Is he still a free agent and is he going to play in the NBA this season?

Nicely done, hopefully you finally shut that crazy Filipino up. Although I like boxing, I'm beginning to love Thai boxing and all other derived forms.
I'm still not sure of what the rules are since there seem to be alot of different sanctioning bodys over seeing all this. Man, its full contact.
Does anyone know the rules?
