WHAT YOU SAY

What is Corea?

CFL?? Are you kidding me!? Their talent level is about the same as Arena League and maybe NFL Europe. Even the XFL had better talent.

OK, let's see...Eugene Chung was an All-American at Virginia Tech, a First Round Draft choice of the New England Patriots and was a starter in the NFL. Hmmm. Wow, you're right, that guy in the CFL did more for the AA image.

It's painfully obvious you don't know much about sports. According to all the scouts who scouted him extensively in Korea, Hee-Sop Choi was viewed as a big-time prospect. This was even before there were any Asian position players in the MLB, nonetheless Asian power hitters. The only questions that arose were when he had an injury that took some time to heal. Otherwise, he would have been called up a year sooner. And Mark Grace obviously was worried since Choi was the man who was designated as the 1st baseman of the future. Grace's career with the Cub's was in jeopardy if Choi was called up since he was going to be Grace's replacement. He was later booted off the team as their 1st baseman. The only reason Fred McGriff is still starting while platooning with Choi is that they want McGriff to hit 30 homeruns a year as a Cub. He would have hit 30 HRs with 5 different teams which would be a record.

I think you need to let the other more sport-savvy guys on this site make arguments on your behalf. Based on what you have been writing in this forum, you really don't know sports at all.

baseball fan,

you can't be much of a baseball fan if you didn't know Chan Ho Park made the All-Star game last year.

Chan Ho Park made the All-Star game last year. Byung Hyun Kim made it this year.

Baseball fan, your knowledge apparently is pretty shallow. Who gave up a HR to Cal Ripken in the AllStar Game a couple of years ago that had people complaining that the Game was fixed? None other than Chan Ho. I just had to say something so that I could put a vote into the polls.

You're no real baseball fan. Do some research, you lazy wannabe!

How many teams really play rugby?
Maybe like 8 teams? Any stinkin' tournment that can only muster 8 teams out of, what, over 150 countries is an irrelevant sport. Not even in the Olympics and they have table tennis. I think it was the Chinese delagation that push for that one, you know, to pad their medal count in more irrelevant sports. Rugby is irrelevant sport in the WORLD or in US.
In my effort to educate the ignorants, I will correct you. Taiwanese in recent matches against Corea and Japan. It was like 145 to 7. So much for another sport Chinese aren't good at. Rugby in Asia is strictly a "fringe" or club sport. No one cares about Rugby in Asia.

Soccer isn't evrything:
Rankings mean little, maybe only top five spots are valid. I seriously doubt Germany is rank #2, over France, Argentina and Italy?? Corea isn't in top ten, so what, still best in Asia.

pinoy Prowess:
You're Filipino for God's sake! HAHAHAHAHAHA! I guess you're such a loser you've adopted Somoans as your own? And Rugby? HAHAHA!
Pinoy, I didn't know there's a midget rugby team. Go Philipinnes!

Counter puncher get over it korea is not a sporting power.
korea sucks    Sunday, September 22, 2002 at 12:41:46 (PDT)    [202.27.176.157]
To my knowledge, Chan Ho Park never made it to the MLB All-Star game.

When he was with the L.A. Dodgers, there were some games he dominated, but some he just was out of sync.

This is not a Chinese vs. Corean thing. It is purely BASEBALL!!! So, before some of you come up with the same BS nationalism talk, read the post before making insults, OK!!!

I'm curious as to why there is so much Chinese bashing here? To all the anti-Sinoites out there, this is a website about Asian Americans, not www.bashChinese.com. Start your own website for that!

Japanese and Chinese athletes are more well known internationally than Koreans on the sporting scene. I'm glad for Yao Ming and Ichiro Suzuki making headlines in the U.S. I have yet to hear of a Korean making the news at THAT HEADLINING LEVEL. Here at this particular Varsity dorm there is a huge Asian population who frequent this site on this computer and everyone has their own opinion. There was a National Geographic article stating that if it came to the pound for pound factor, then Polynesians are hands down the highest achieving group in the world. There was a mention in that crazy best selling book 'Why Blacks dominate sport' too about that.
'Samoa sucks'
Counter Puncher I dare you say that to a Samoan's face hehe. You wouldnt even last. I've seen a Vietnamese so-called kickboxer laying on the sidewalk because he was mouthing at a Samoan dude. I used to live in California and even Blacks and Latinos didnt dare mess with them. I follow rugby because of it's physicality and Samoa is a team that are known and reputed as the hardest tackling rugby team in the world, they possess the most vicious hits in the game. However for such a small nation they own many upsets under their belts. When they burst on to the scene in 1991, they were called the 'Cameroon of the rugby world' due to their giant killing success against some of the bigger nations. I'd like to see more Asian players really make a mark on the rugby stage. The Japanese are doing more than anyone else at the moment but China is rising as their results in the recent Sevens tournaments have shown. Oh man the top sporting news for any Asian - Yao Ming, I can't wait when they unleash him. For all those Ming haters, like it or not, he represents all of Asia in the eyes of America.

Counter Puncher

Do you know that Samoans provide many of the best players in New Zealand and for the All Blacks and are highly regarded in World Rugby? Samoa has even provided the All Blacks and Super 12 with loads of players. For Samoa to reach playoffs at the World Cup three times in a row, for such a small player base is remarkable. I think your comment of Samoa Sucks because their nation has achieved alot in our beautiful sport. It shows ignorance and obviously you have very little knowledge about the sport because it is among the global sports with the World Cup one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Beat down by the Australians? Ummm last time I checked the Aussies lost to Samoa at the Commonwealth Games recently and gave them a huge fright in Sydney during the Qualifying series in 98. Beat Down? Ummm hardly. Know the game before you can talk about it.
New Zealand rugby    Friday, September 20, 2002 at 21:40:25 (PDT)    [210.54.71.213]
counter pincher first of all im not samoan lol u idiot. secondly rugby is a global sport with the rugby world cup noted as the third biggest sporting event after the olympics and soccer world cup. it is truly a global sport. by the way if u knew but it has been noted many times that polynesians are the worlds best athletes per capita. they only number under a million and they still achieve more sporting events than any other group in the world but of course u wouldnt know that. as for samoa sucking, ummmmm theres more players in korea and japan playing rugby than samoa itself and samoa still thrashes them both. goes to show ur knowledge lol. by the way there are samoan and other polynesian players that represent the all blacks and australia the two best teams in the world and samoa is in the top 10. many of the best players in nz are samoan u idiot. where is corea? lol. michael niko jones a samoan was also named the greatest ever loose forward and player of all time. any korean players there? ummm nope. more rugby players in korea and japan than those pacific islands and they still cant manage anything. fringe sport - tell which real man's sport are they good at? corea sucks
Pinoy Prowess    Friday, September 20, 2002 at 21:10:05 (PDT)    [210.54.71.213]
Just an interesting note, there was a ranking that came out recently (top ten), I believe by FIFA (or perhaps some other organization, I forget) and ranked soccer teams from the around world for this past year.

Of course, Brazil was ranked number, the Germans were number 2, Turkey and yes, the U.S. made it there in the top ten (which even surprised me).

South Korea did not make the top ten.

Perhaps, the reasoning, the rankers look not just at performance in one World Cup, but overall from past World Cups and other events.
