WHAT YOU SAY

We are getting sidetracked with all this discussion between Northern and Southern Chinese and who is more attractive. Or Koreans and Chinese (Southern & Northern Chinese). That is all relative.

This is my personal observation (maybe I'm wrong), but of the Chinese-Korean couples I know, it tends more to be Chinese males and Korean females. I have seen fewer Korean males and Chinese females. I'm not making a statement (about who is superior Koreans or Chinese because that's just all relative and non-sense to compare), just pointing out my observation.

Elisa, let's cut the nonsense,

I am from HK, and I have to agree HK people can be snobby, trendy and want to simulate what's hot at the moment, be is Chinese, Japanese and Korean...whatever. Unless you ever lived there long enough, I guess it's hard for you to understand why?

HK people are highly influenced by economics. Imagine you have to compete with 6 million other people to make a living in a place size of a "pea", the competition is very intense. To get ahead, they must learn, walk, eat, talk in the most efficient and fast-paced manner. Over the years, HK people proud themselves in being consider equal in what they have achieved, skyscrappers, cars, education comparable to the west. Therefore, sometimes they look down on fellow mainland Chinese who many are less sophiscated in manners and economical status. I would say most HK'ers find Japan and Korea culturally interesting, and more sophisticated in some respect to HK, and are willing to learn from them, just like we adopt ways of the west to our own benefit. And for your information, most HK'ers are racist to foreigners from the west, japanese & korean alike, and mainland for they might take their jobs away one day. I am not saying this behaviour is perfectly right, but groups behave what they do to survive.

Where is the talk of love between Chinese men and Corean women?

Why all this fight between N. and S. Chinese?

You guys don't know what you are talking about! Most Chinese I know, whether from Beijing, Fuzhou or Guangzhou don't even pay close attention to their physical features. In fact, when I was in Beijing, they couldn't even tell I was Cantonese until they realized that I couldn't communicate with them in Mandarin.

This is true of Guangzhou and Fuzhou too as all large cities in China have migrants from all over the country. You even have semi-Caucasoid looking people (Uigurs) selling flat breads and lamb kabob on the streets of Guangzhou now. Some even speak perfect Cantonese and often pass as locals if they shave off their beards and mustache.

But, I must say that some Hong Kong and Taiwanese people suffer from identity crises. In Hong Kong, you find lots of people with English or Japanese first names. I find it ridiculous to say the least. I am sure the youths of Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou will sure pick up on these defeatist attitudes if they watch too much HK TVB movies.

Other than that, you guys over exaggerate inter provincial hatred when there is really none.

The only group of Chinese to hate on others I know are the Taiwanese. Whether your origins stem from Beijing, Guangzhou, Shandong, Shanghai or even southern Fujian they will not welcome you as one of them and try to not employ you in Taibei. That hate is still evident today, although much of it is underneath the surface now.

TOFU_BUNNIE,

Maybe you need to go and get some lessons on how to read properly? Would you care to read my previous post again -- CAREFULLY this time?

I didn't say that Southern Chinese actually are inferior to or worse- looking than Northern Chinese/Asians. I said that many Southern Chinese THEMSELVES automatically THINK that other Northern Asians are superior and better looking.

A lot of them worship Japanese and Koreans and base their ideas about the entire Japanese/Korean populations on the beautiful Japanese/Korean stars they see on TV. They even complain that their own Southern Chinese men/women are not good-looking enough for them.

A lot of these people are from Hong Kong and they seem to know more Japanese than they know English. I've seen many of them malicisously imitate Mainland Chinese people (like squatting on the floor) and laugh as if they themselves have no connection to these "lowly beings".

My point is that being a Southern Chinese myself I am sad to see some other Southern Chinese, especially the Hong Kong-influenced type, looking down on their fellow Chinese while worshipping other people.

So what did I say that makes me not deserve to call myself Chinese??
