WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
to dunhuang:
Taishan people resemble northwest Chinese?
that doesn't make any sense at all!
I've seen many taishan people in NYC Chinatown, and they look nothing like Uighurs or Hui. They seem more like Malays actually...
actually I think some Fujianese have more of the central/west Asian blood. Maybe they mixed in with some of the Arab and Persian traders in the port cities? and some of the fujianese ladies are HOT too!
i think your point about there being similarities between southern and northern Chinese makes some sense given that there has so much migration over the centuries, especially from north to south. BUT there is definitely a physical distinction between the original inhabitants of northern China and southern China, especially areas such as Fujian and Guangdong, and the genetic studies only prove what is already obvious.
also, as you mentioned the Uighur population in northwestern China, it should be pointed out that this population actually possesses many Caucasian features, which can be seen from their physical appearance as well as by genetic studies. some members of this population may have relocated to the southern regions of China and mixed with the local inhabitants. In fact, my maternal grandfather is probably an example of this type of mixture (although I do not know the fine details) and I suspect some of your ancestors are as well.
to UFVtguy:
I agree, there are quite a few beautiful women in HK. However it should be pointed out that many of the beautiful girls in HK are from the Shanghai area or northern China. Many Shanghaiese moved to HK to flee the Communists back in late 1940s or early 1950s, while in more recent years, a significant number of very well-connected mainland Chinese families have been relocating to HK also.(with their beautiful daughters:))
to a travellers view:
interesting observations... actually i visited vietnam (northern part) for a few days myself last year... I was expecting to see some good-looking women there and I wasn't disappointed at all. It was funny, on the Chinese side of the Vietnam-china border, some of the Chinese waitresses told us the girls in Vietnam were ugly (maybe out of jealousy?)

Indy, what i was saying was that the majority of the vietnamese have a pinkish look to them. We chinese seem to not have as many people with this pink look. But this doesn't mean there aren't anyone with a pink look, i'm sure there are some. But from what i've seen the majority of the vietnamese Kinh have this pinkish look, while it's a rarity for the chinese.

let me correct myself. Zhang ziyi was pretty at first, but now she is sooooooooooo played out. im sure there will be many ABC who will still think she's hot and i truely dont know why.
i would think ABC male would find ABC females (you know, the ones you said aren't that pretty.) to be more attractive. cause i sure as hell do.

Ok, now I'm scared.
According to these posts, Vietnamese people have pinkish cast to their skin, and when Chinese people are pale, they're just really pallid.
Well, I'm definitely Chinese and I have pale skin with a pink cast. I'm from Shanghai, if that's of any consequence. I've seen girls who are 'pallid', who's absolute lack of colour is greater than mine, yet they seem to think I'm paler. I disagree, but a friend explained that due to my slightly pinker pigmentation, I just look 'brighter' and there's more contrast between my cheeks and the rest of my skin.
So...does this mean that I have Vietnamese blood? Because I really don't think so. Therefore, even if it's rare, Chinese people do have that pinkish cast too.
Actually this whole, who's better looking, VF or CF, I think it's pretty even, but for the fact that on average, Vietnamese people tend to be shorter, that's all.

Mr. Hann:
I didn't say that only N. Chinese girls are beautiful. My favorite actress is a HK cantonese woman( Gigi Zhao )
You said "ABCs don't find Zhang ziyi attractive"
Who do ABCs find attractive...?
I'm just curious because I'm a F.O.B

Hey, i've noticed that too. Vietnamese people, mainly the Kinh ethnic have a pinkish pigment to their skin. It makes them look nice, like a lucky, spontaneous, energetic teen. It's a really nice thing.
I like the pinkness in their skin, i love it actually. I makes them look young, and that the world revolve around them kind of. Makes them look like nice people, like i said spontaneous.
True, i've been to beijing, and their are some pretty light skinned people, but they don't have that pinkness in them. They're just pale.
