WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
Even though the chinese are a HUGE minority in vietnam VERY little mixing has been done witht the vietnamese since they've been there. A huge mixing has occured within the past 3 hundred years but before that resentment has restricted that from happening.
Even today there are A LOT of families who WOULD disown their child if they married a chinese person. Marrying a chinese person was considered 'bad luck' to the vietnamese, and it was considered a shame to your people. Even today the word silly and goofy (not in the funny way, but in the not cool weird kind of goofy and silly) has the word chinese in it.
The vietnamese supposedly came from the Yueh people who were assimilated into the Dong Son. The Yueh WEREN'T even considered chinese to the chinese back then, and the chinese scholars also thought so. It is written in Confucious' writings differentiating them from his people. He says that our toes gave us an edge in battle making ups climb trees with ease and run faster.
Our toes have more space in between the toes, and the big toes (the ones that are closest to the center of the body) aren't the longest but the second ones are. Also our bone structures have many differences. Our bodies are usually leaner and thinner. Our faces are more heart shaped.
The Yueh (our supposed ancestors who were assimilated into the Dong Son) lived in the areas of Fukien and Chekien and the south. They were invaded by the chinese and left that area to avoid their rule even if their land was taken away. They moved to where Guangdong is today, and once again that land went to the chinese thus they moved south to where north vietnam is today. If that is true then the chinese have vietnamese blood and that the similarites would come from the people left behind when we moved south. The areas where we were considered native to or aboriginals to ARE the areas where most of the oldest Homo Sapiens found in asia are found. We being the first peoples there and even called aboriginals there have more of a right to call these fossils vietnamese. Even though the chinese own that piece of land now, the aboriginals of that area aren't the chinese, and the natives there weren't chinese. They moved south and are now the vietnamese. Our ancestors are considered to be those fossils by some chinese scholars and thus we've been around for a VERY long period of time. The fossils found in other areas are just as old or younger but usually the fossils in the areas controlled by the Yueh (which did not contain most of the Yueh, the Yueh were concentrated more south) are considered to be the oldest found in china of the Homo Sapien stock.
Well and we stayed apart becuase we kind of hated the chinese. Even after they conquered our land we still had WARS, actually having 15 wars in the times that they controlled vietnam. How can you marry someone who had just killed your father or grandfather or even brother? Thats kind of hard. And also became independent AFTER you beat them? It would surely be in our history books and stories. And having it even being considered 'bad luck' to marry a chinese. But hey there have been ALOT of mixing with the vietnamese by the chinese in the last 300 years.
So that's the difference. Even though there is a common belief that we are ALL chinese, NO WE ARE NOT!
That is the reason why we had our identity EVEN after 1000 years of chinese rule. Taking over our capital doesn't mean the war is over, we should know, most people just kept on fighting back, and fighting back.
So no we are not ALL THE SAME!

[That's enough history. Let's get back to Chinese Male/Viet Female relations. --Ed]
True, MOST vietnamese women IN vietnam DON'T use alot of make-up, if not none at all. The hot weather hovering at around an average 35 degrees celcius or around 100 degrees F isn't really a good weather to have make-up on.
Like i've said i've been to rural areas and urban. The Urban areas and Rural areas both have the same amount of pink cast to their skin (if the rural area and urban areas compared are of the same region). And the areas which seem to have ALOT more pink cast skin are in the Central, then the North then South East regions of vietnam. Even though SOME chinese have the pink cast it doesn't seem to be of the majority, but in vietnam the Kinh (Viet) has it as the majority. In an area where having make-up is considered bad and inconvenient.
Why is it bad? Because they believe that it can make your skin bad or old looking when caught in the sun becuase of the chemicals in it.
Why inconvenient? It would melt off, or it would be REALLY hot under it making you sweat OVER the sweat you would NATURALLY get from the weather. Hot weather at around the Humidity of 95% or something really sinks into the make-up and makes it smudge.
And in the rural areas there seems to be MORE people with the pink cast. Why? It's probably in the genes! Becuase why would they buy make-up when they can't even afford rice? They don't even have time to put on make-up as they are busy picking or tending to their fields.
