Okay, I'm Filipino and it really amuses me when Filipinos claim to be Spanish or Hispanic. When are you people going to accept the fact that we are Asian?? Filipinos are Malay and Malays are Asian. And besides there are more mixed Chinese/Filipino than there are Spanish/Filipino. And as for our looks, we LOOK Asian. Not all Asians have to have small eyes and light skin. Quit all your white/European mentality. And of course there are many Filipinos with slanted eyes and "yellow skin."

And when was the last time the Phillipines was called a "Latin" country?? We are seen as Asians all over the world. And why would us Filipinos even wanna' associate with Latinos??!! From my experiences throughout highschool, the Mexicans would call Filipino students "chino" or "chinito." Hispanics are probably one of the most racist group of people in the world.

In my experiences, korean guys have best attractive physical traits among asian nationality.
And they are very fashionate.

I traveled japan ,china and korea.
Japanese guys are rather short and dark. Chinese guys are unfashionably dressed and not clean.

korean guys are more white and fashionable than any other asian nationality.

I'm an artist wanting to crossover in the US (ha!ha! greatest dream of mine)as well as to be recognized in my country the Philippines & hey, I'm a Filipina. But I don't wanna be branded by my nationality. I wanna be known as me, as a person & I think this branding will stop if we don't let other people brand us or categorize us as Asians/Filipinos/etc. We're humans - period! ALthough I'd like to comment that I was raised in a Westernized way, I was very independent. What I hate about Filipinos is the thirst for gossip, & like life is just a big joke. Most sitcoms u see on TV are poor slapstick comedy. Movies are all & the same storylines, sex & poorly made action films. There's little desire to be known for quality & excellence. It's always that "oh whatever" or bahala na attitude. And most often Filipinos, most esp. int eh same family, are so dependent w/ each other, u know, the relative syndrome just to get ahead. And these traits are pretty obvious to other cultures, unless one of Filipino descent was raised in the Western world. So yeah, I don't wanna be stereotyped as a Filipina but just an artist. I look Hispanic but u know what? I still always emphasize the fact that I am a true-blue Filipino, born & raised in Manila. If Filipinos will just strive to be better people, it'll all be well since we learn easily & we can adapt to any kind of situation thru rain & shine. No, I'm not a proud Pinoy. I just happened to be a Pinoy. No point in shouting it out.

Here is a link to all those filipinos and everyone else who will not shut up about this filipino-hispanic hog wash. Hopefully it will shut you guys up once an for all about who and what filipinos are racially and culturally.
Maybe then we can concentrate and discuss other more interesting and mind captivating issues. Because i am getting tired of all this filipino-bashing or filipino-admiring that is comming from every angle!!!

It talks about Latin America's racial identity but it also includes the philippines and their racial and historic ties to the Spaniards.

Hi I am a chinese-japanese american woman. I noticed that over the years especially in high school in northern california that the filipino people were really stuck up. In fact, when I tried to befriend them they would completely ignore me. I think filipino people are ashamed to be associated with being asian. Once someone mistakened a filipino girl for a chinese or malaysian and she got insulted. But when you mistaken them for a spanish or hispanic, they take it as a compliment. I think they have an extreme inferiority complex. Many filipinos that I met before wanted nothing to do with being asian, They were all wanna be hispanic or white people. I tried for many years to be friendly to filipinos but it's hard. They treat other asian nationalities bad except white and hispanic. They are ashamed to be associated with asians yet, they obviously look asian no matter how much spanish they have inside. I am talking about the filipino americans in the bay area of course. I never met one filipino who actually seemed secure about themselves. One time I talked to a filipino woman and she told me that "the part of her family that looked good was the spanish side, while the part that was ugly was from the chinese side" I thought that was messed up. But anyways, filipinos may think people like them in general, and people can act nice to them but in reality, I think most asians have low respect for them.

Good grief! I was born and raised in the Philippines ever since I was 16 and you are SO wrong. We have never identified ourselves as "hispanics" or "latinos". IF people asked us what our nationality most would say "Oh, I'm a Filipino" instead of saying "Oh, I'm an Asian." And no, some Filipinos DO have Spanish blood in them, but this would the grandfathers and great-grand fathers, etc. My grandfather is half Spanish, and my grandmother is half Chinese.

I think that FILIPNOS who identify themselves as "being" SORTA like hispanics/latinos ARE THOSE FILIPINOS who were born in the Philippines and come to the United States at a tweenager or teenager age. Then some of these Filipinos of Filipinas start "coloring" their hair, brown, or streaked to "pass" themselves off as sorta "hispanic" looking. That is probably what you are referring to. Filipinos IN THE PHILIPPINES have NEVER called themselves HISPANICS/LATINOS. ONLY, if they trulyhave some Spanish blood. Then they say, oh yes, "I have a little Spanish blood, in my granfather/grandmother, etc." Sheesh!!!

im filipino, and i nor any filipino i know identifies themself as 'spanish' or 'hispanic.' 90% of my friends are asian, and id say 90% of my filipino friends have mostly asian friends.
i think whether or not a filipino person might identify more w/ being asian or being 'hispanic' might be a regional thing. ive noticed that filipino ppl who are mostly tagalog-speaking seem to associate more w/ 'hispanic' lifestyle moreso than other groups. all the ilocano (a region in northern philippines) ppl i know, however, seem to associate more as asians.
i cant attest to any proven connections, but the tagalog language does happen to have a lot more spanish words thrown in than other dialects ive heard, so its possible that those whose regions have used tagalog as their main language historically might be more 'hispanized'. i suppose an easier metaphor might be how mandarin is the official language in china, but every region has its own dialect that is used most of the time (i.e. cantonese, hokkien, etc...), and each region has their own pseudo-culture...

Wow, I try to be a nice guy and that's what I get. There's a reason I don't post in this section lol -it's too easy to be misunderstood. If you took my comments the wrong way let me summarize it this way; Filipinos are all right in my book, o.k.? -As are the rest of you. Have a good one...
