That was a very perceptive post! I especially agree with your point about white supremacy being only one component of the colonial mentality. In Taiwan, some of the Taiwanese who grew up under the Japanese occupation like being taken for Japanese. The younger ones, on the other hand, couldn't really give a flying f*** about the Japanese: they'd prefer to be like their so-called deliverers, the Americans!

That is why the dangers of colonization are much worse than some complacent and ignorant whites think: the ones who assume that "natives" have gained a lot. Yes, they gain more knowledge of technology, but they also gain self-hatred in trying to take on physical features that they will never have.

In the Philippines, a person who is dark and has a somewhat flat nose will always be seen as more primitive, more "fresh out of the jungle", than somebody is who fairer. That's the plain truth. When I was little, my mom used to tell me to pinch the bridge of my nose every night to make it more prominent. And it's true, most of the educated, well-off people in the cities are of mixed descent, not pure native Malay. I wonder if this is because the ones with Chinese descent were able to have more opportunities for education because the Chinese in the Philippines were generally prosperous merchants. And as for those with Spanish descent, their ancestors had many advantages in society and in landowning. The native Malays were excluded by the status quo of that day, and perhaps that's why things have turned out this way. So until a native Malay breaks the stereotype and forces people to change their thinking, things are gonna stay this way. Stop whining about it already. It's sad, but that's the way it is.

As for the colonizers, sure they did evil stuff, but I don't hate them for it. I love being Catholic. I love the old Spanish churches and our fiestas. It makes our culture unique. Pictures of white Jesus don't bother me. Stop nitpicking, Truth and Understanding. These people are poor. They can't afford to commission a Filipino-looking Jesus painting. What matters is their faith.

I totally know what you're talking about. I often feel that when Asians encounter each other, they size each other up. Filipinos do it all the time, and it makes me sick. I've met a lot of Filipino people who don't want to see other Filipinos become more successful than them. I don't know if this mentality exists in other Asian groups, but a lot of Filipino people are like that, whether they admit it or not.

What's the deal with Koreans being "more white" making them more attractive???!!! (Stop with this white is more beautiful B.S.!) I've seen some fashionable Japanese and Chinese. Koreans don't have the monopoly on that. I could easily say Koreans are the most materialistic, but then, there are materialist Japanese and Chinese as well.

Seriously, wouldn't you think the most attractive person is one who can be attractive without having to wear the most fashionable clothes (it's only the clothes that make them "more attractive"- if that's the case, that's so pathetic).

Hey lets stop bashing Filipinos. Personally I know about 5 Filipinos and all are very proud and definitely are not sellouts. Four of them are going back to the Phillipines. Maybe its just the Filipinos here that are becoming whitewashed?

And as one of the previous posters mentioned, maybe Filipinos have shown signs of selling out but old habits die hard. They don't act like this on purpose and as the country develops and it is, the pride will come.

Let's stop this hate BS such as "Phillipines aren't know for anything around the world, its not like they produce great electronics, entertaining movies, stylish fashion, host world events..." We are all asians and we should support each other. Personally I think white people get a real kick out of asians dissing each other. God forbid we show any unity or spine.

What is your problem? A few weeks ago you were ranting about the same issues in the Asian/Latino relationships section and now you are here. Why are you trying to turn Latinos and Asians against each other and constantly putting down Latinos saying we're all poor, or racist or uhmm what was it shady...? I think you mentioned because Latinos picked you on in High School, something to the effect that they called you "chinito" right?

Well my friend, I am Latino and I got picked on by some Latinos too so I can tell you it ain't as racial as you think. It's what happens when you have too many of one ethnic group around -they get away with bullying everyone else. Asians can be bullies too –believe me.

Were there a lot of Asians at your school? -Because at my school there were lots so they had some muscle and none of them would have let anyone call them "chinito" in a negative light for very long without throwing an insult back. M&M, if you had a big mouth in general to people or didn't have the courage to stand up for yourself don't make it a racial issue pitting Asians against Latinos.

and TSJ, as I mentioned to Model Minority weeks ago "chinito" is not necessarily a negative word. It literally means a Chinese or Asian person. If someone says it to you and you know they are being malicious call them something in your language and turn the tables. See how they like it.

And what the hell is wrong Latinos anyways? Should I as a Mexican-American stop eating Chinese food or using the Korean cleaner down the street because so many of you think Latinos, and therefore I, am stupid or shady?

I think this current string of Latino bashing was all started by my misguided efforts to stick up for Filipino people -lol. I was just trying to be nice because it seemed like everyone was picking on them. I didn't say they should become Hispanic if that's what you think and I didn't mean to insult East Asians at all either, lol.

I tell you most of my buds are Asian. Besides, the few Filipinos I know are proud to be Filipino. I never knew there was so much tension between different Asian ethnicities. This is an interesting learning experience. Anyways... let's see what happens next -good day.

Once again, Christianity is a EUROPEAN religion. Everyone else was converted. Indians, Japanese, and Indonesian? Most Indians are either Hindu or Sikh. Japanese mostly are Shinto. Indonesia is the world's largest Muslin country.

Asian Dominatrix thinks she's all that. If you are truly gorgeous then show GOLDSEA readers your picture instead of using mere words and outrageous nicknames to prove yourself. People who keep talking about how sexy they are, how they hooked their white hubby's, spout insults at white women must be pretty ugly themselves. In my most humble opinion, you must be a pretty sexually experienced gal and you are using that sexual expertise to hook your poor hubby. I think Korean Women are the prettiest of them all, followed by Filipino and Japanese Women. I've seen a lot of Chinese women and they really are not "ALL THAT." And older Chinese women? They do not age gracefully. I think it has to do with their eyes, it's just too small and very slitted.
