WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
[We've moved a copy of these most recent "Comparing Chinese regionals" from the Height poll page. --Ed]
Shanghai people have traditionally have been known as the most beautiful in China, and even in modern times, Hongkong and beijing find the unable to cook Shanghai girl desirable.
As for height, we are not as tall as beijingers, but taller than fujian, cantonese, manchurian, noi mongolian, after all, Shanghai is not known as short or freakishly tall as Shandong people, pretty average I suppose.

I'm sorry angelique... but are you referring to Shanghai people as southerners? We are considered by people as Northern Han. Just not as far as the minority groups north east of beijing. Suzhou ladies also have an adage of being the most beautiful in China.
*morphs into siege mode*
You tiny manchurians! You are inferiour to us Beijing and Shandong people ( in height...government... technology... just that HEHE!) I feel so sorry for Koreans... When I ask my grandma how do manchurians look like... she speaks wisely and tells about their reputation... barbarians to the northeastern wastelands, shortened by the uneven terrain, tanned by the sun! Too bad koreans are sometimes associated with them... but I think they are like Japanese.

N. Chinese,
Aye... Northern Han's wont do well in military! They are way to valuable in intelligence! Except if they are manchurian or mongolian, who are also smart, but they arent that technologically advanced, up there is very rural, and let's not waste them for soldiers. Northerners a military tradition? You got it all wrong! Sure they defended against Manchurians and Mongolians, but they also were bright in the government aspect, along with technology! Shanghai/Suzhou/Hanzhou and the northern middle Han peoples were elegant and places of beautiful women in the imperial palaces. The southerners were neglected the most, since the central government was so busy up north defending against barbarians to the extreme north of Manchuria and Mongolia. Their were also weak vietnamese rebel tribes that sometimes required troops to fight off... but China Proper as a whole (China proper is area's exluding the Ching conquests, like tibet, xinjiang, manchuria, nei mongol, and yunnan) are intelligent, along with advanced military weapons, also medicine was great, and practical technology such as paper also were nice!
Southerners are not as intelligent as the northern peoples... maybe except for the HongKong people who seem smart. The northerners were always the leaders of government in China. Let them be that way. Ancient dynasties originate there, and they developed many forms of imperial rule.
Han Chinese r the best!

(As for "Shanghai and Cantonese creature/beings" being less hot than Machurians . . . I think that all this comparing between ourselves is what set off this bickering to being with. Maybe if we could all agree that there are beautiful women all over China, from Guangzhou to Harbin. Let's leave the infighting behind.)

Angelique,
It's not sad, it's just being Chinese.
Think of it as MSG in Chinese food. Sure MSG is bad for you. But without MSG in Chinese food, it would not taste so good.
Chinese people would be pretty boring if we all just got along and only had good things to say about one another.

Angelique,
Thanks for the Tibetan translation. I've never had Tibetan food before, but would also love to go there someday.
I've always wondered how they manage to grow, raise and cook food up there. I heard they drink a lot of tea also (more than other Asians) to compensate for the lack of fresh vegetables (good for digestion).
As for being like Sancho Panza. . .well, you should see my job.

Roger,
I always found it interesting Chinese history is sometimes filled with legends and love stories. I feel sorry for chinese history majors in china sometimes, fact and fiction all rolled into one.
I once sat in on a Chinese History Class in a Universtiy in Asia. I couldn't believe they were discussing the 5 most beautiful women in Chinese history. 2 of them caused a dynastic change.
I would have love to have a USA history class of the 5 most beautiful women. And the influences they had on USA history.
