Hi, I just wanted to ask how the Korean culture got started, how did the country and people first form? I'm not Korean, so some insight would be apprecieated. I had worked as a waittress before, in different asian restaurants. I don't wanna diss the Korean culture, but I used to work in a Korean buffet, it seem like most of the food they have are either chinese food or japense food, like sushi rolls, dumplings, chow mein, fried rice, etc.. According to me, I think that Korean culture are a mixture of Chinese and Japanese, also the language seem like it also. I knew one korean or corean? girl who works there, she told me that it's easy for her to learn Japanese, that's probably because the Korean and Japanese language are closely related?

James PTBC, I won't "chew you up" but I will disagree with you. I already ate.

It does appear from your post, however, that your feelings of passionate Korean nationalism are peppered with determined racism. Your rush to stereotype others I believe are a result of not having found the time to interact and/or understand other groups. Your post only propagates the same injustice of ignorance that has plagued Koreans, Asians, and other ethnic groups. Don't we have enough 'ists' in this world already?

Having met one Japanese woman, you assumed that most Japanese women subscribed to her desire to dance with and meet "American men"; whatever that could mean. Your example indicates that you met 'one' Japanese girl, not seventy-five million. Does it equally 'sicken' you when American girls rave of Italian men, or when women throughout the world swoon of "Latin Lovers"? No, only your dispute of an Asian woman with a non-Asian man I might imagine would constitute breaching your parameters of social disobedience.

For arguments sake, however, let's presume you are correct in that "most" Japanese women felt this way. Would it be safe for non-Koreans to assume that "most" Koreans are clannish and insular? No, it would not, because not all Koreans are like that; nor are all Swedes, Dominicans, Uzbeks, Icelanders or Bangladeshis. Although when you mention things like "100% Corean blood" and "glad I met my Corean half" within the context of being virtuous attributes; as a Korean who begins everyday as a Korean first rather than a person, you may have only added fuel to this kind of misunderstanding against all Koreans. And point taken, that "only large portion, not all" Filipinos have a proclivity to be hampered by a "Let's have fun" mode: I'm sure the many Filipinos who work in medical services will be comforted by your effort to make that distinction. Overall, your post was as offensive as "White Granny", another person who left a narrow-minded diatribe on another board. Only difference was that she was caucasian and you are Asian.

Your culture has no flaws, it is one that I have much interest and respect for. It is you, however, that has the problem, not Koreans. With all due respect to your family, calling your wife and baby "Corean", and living a life of everything "Corean" will only highlight your fear of what you do not understand, and keeping you shortsighted of the world around you. As you mentioned, both you and your wife are professionals. If you, sir, are the one who works in education, then I should hope that the intolerance you exhibited in your post is not indicative of the daily coursework in your classroom, and if you are a man of medicine, you ought to know after all those years in medical school that tolerance, acceptance of others and asserting one's character first need not require a background in brain surgery.

Your personal opinion (in my opinion) was entirely unprofessional, offered nothing more than common generalizations, and warrants reexamination. You wasted so much time being wrong about others, isn't it about time to start being right?

If Koreans are so proud to be Korean and wish to retain Korean culture, why are there so many Christian Koreans. It not like Christianity was innately Korean. Based on your logic shouldn't proud Korean renounce Christianity and USA military bases in Korea.

Further following your logic Western medicine would be bad also. But the only other choice would be Chinese medicine. No win situation if you're Korean in terms of medicine.

Very generalized comments you've made about Japanese, Chinese and Filipinos. I can see you are writing from "Corean eyes" (at least from one person).

I can appreciate Coreans our proud of their culture. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I am very proud of my heritage (Taiwanese and Chinese).

Let's face it, every group and culture has their strengths and weakness, be it Corean, Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, African-American, Latino, Caucasian, Middle Eastern, Polynesian, etc.

To James PTBC- how much more full of yourself and backwards could you be? Your thinking is stuck in the '50's. People living together before they're married?? OH my god call out the morality police! And in defense of western society, individualism is a GOOD thing, it's good to have the freedom to be yourself, unlike in strict old-fashioned societies like Korea's, where anything deviating from the norm is very bad. I would rather be your brother in the struggle for equality than to spit on the sidewalk near a numbnuts like the pyschology nut. I would however ask that you consider the perfectly rational facts why Blacks APPEAR to commit disproportional crimes. Simple my friend, for example when growing up, if we were drinkin on the street corner, we may end up in jail for that perfectly harmless pastime. If the white boys were disrupting the peace or other criminal acts the police were more likely to call their mommies and daddies to escort them home. Just one example of how the deck comes stacks against Black young men.
Thus contributing to misleading statitics as it relates to behaviour.
I'm for fairness for all races including my Asian brothers and sisters.

Azn Realist seems to be racist now. Oh well, i live in australia and there have been no raping of 13 year old girls by vietnamese gangsters. They would kill you but not rape you. What do you expect from a group of people who's family was shot right in front of them? Don't you think this would make you hard? Having 75% of your family killed in a war you did not win doesn't really make you soft.

I am chinese, i don't judge by ethnics as i know that there are many fine and ugly women of all races.

1) Coreans do not represent purely Asian culture because they are too educated and civilized.They cannot be representative for Asia because Christianity has westernized them.(Or how would you comment on the many Christian Coreans?)
2) Confucianism is now a mass movement. It has lost its quality.

I know some of you WILL disagree (and chew me up), I would like to present my personal opinion on this matter.
Yes, I do believe Coreans typically represent the wonderful Asian culture/ways/values better than other asian groups. I am Corean (extremely proud one) with a beautiful Corean woman. We are both professionals in medicine and education.
My experiences with other asian cultures were as follows:

Japanese: Westerner crazed nation, deprived of some twisted sexuality (perverted beyond comprehension). ex: Met a japanese girl while in Undergrad (exchange student) who couldn't speak english almost at all but was ABLE to say these words "I like American Men, go dancing, meet american men" over and over. Quite sickening.

Chinese: Large nation therefore many intelligent and wonderful people. It would be nice if they maintained their strong Confuscianism beliefs but the influence of westernized chinese is destroying their moral values. Personally witnessed too many under age (high schooler) co-habiting while in bf/gf relationship. And parents let them do it. Unbelievable.

Philipinos: Friendly and energetic culture. However, large portion of american philipinos seem to be stuck in this "Let's have fun" mode. Life does not have to involve 'Partying' all the time. (remember I clearly pointed out only large portion, not all)

Sorry I didn't have enough personal experiences with other asian cultures to have a valid opinion.

Perhaps in others' eyes, Coreans may seem snotty and rude but it is because we are simply so proud of who we are - not just proud to be Corean but proud that we remain 100% Corean blood (not like Jewish culture where kids from either mom or dad automatically become jews. (I could never understand that anyway) I am glad I met my Corean half, we are going to have COREAN baby, and he or she will find his/her Corean half when the time comes.

lmao hey man im asian but i agree with you on that one, there is plenty of asian crime and filth in this world, just go to the phillipines where the criminals there have absolutely no morals, filipino illegal immigrants in malaysia, will cut a childs throat for 100 malaysian dollars which is like 30us or something and they have no remorse. Vietnamese in Australia, they are cold blooded cowards who will gang rape 13 year old girls. If you want to look at it on a world level asians are 5 times worst than blacks when it comes to gangs, crime and anything illegal. But in America its really a fact that blacks by ratio are way worst than asians by ratio.
